Sega Superstar Tennis
Rating E10+
Score 3.5/10
Sonic and the gang are playing tennis matches against other Sega characters! This game is available for the Nintendo Wii, Nintendo DS, Playstation 2, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.
After Sonic’s recent performance in the sport game Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games, there was little hope this game would blow anybody away. Did it? Predictably, no.
The concept was there, gathering a bunch of Sega characters in a game, but come on, to play tennis? Everybody you would want is present, Sonic, nights, Amigo from that old Sega Dreamcast game, even characters from Super Monkey Ball, which I think is pushing it. Then there are some characters I never heard of, like Beat – who the heck is Beat?
The controls are easy, but they’re a waste due to bad hit detection. The ball sometimes goes right through the net, and the racket! What’s the point in trying to hit the ball if sometimes it’s impossible to do?
Some stages are cool, and they all have classic music. Some minigames are fun, so fun in fact, you’ll be more attracted to the minigames than the actual gameplay. The rest of the minigames are simple-minded. Collecting rings, throwing painted balls, and other minigames that, if you ask me, are inappropriate for the seventh generation of gaming. The graphics are disappointing; they look like they are straight out of the first Playstation.
With so little hype, everyone is getting what was expected. A seventh generation game that plays like this and that looks like this is unacceptable. Hopefully, we will finally see good, pure Sonic game on a console one day soon.
