Twisted Metal:  Head On

(Extra Twisted Edition)

Score:  8.5/10

It’s time again for Calypso’s International Twisted Metal Tournament!  The winner will be awarded anything they desire.  This game is only available for the Playstation 2.  The series was developed by Incognito Entertainment for Sony and it is the longest running Playstation exclusive franchise.

The Twisted Metal series have based their games on destruction – lots and lots of destruction.  Twisted Metal: Head On (Extra Twisted Edition) is no exception.  This game is extra twisted because it has a complete port of the PSP game Twisted Metal:  Head On, and a special demo of what could have been a sequel to Twisted Metal: Black.  If that’s not enough bang for your buck, you can also run around as the series’ main character, Sweet Tooth, and collect information on what could have been other Twisted Metal games and moments.

Sweet Tooth is a killer clown that drives an ice cream truck.  This may be unappealing for people new to the series, since the chase for all the clown heads holding the information is a fairly boring one.  Fans of Twisted Metal will enjoy exploring the concepts that were rejected and omitted from their beloved series.  The main series itself is based on deformed freaks that compete in a destruction derby to win anything they desire.  In this destruction derby, you can use just about anything to wipe your opponents out.  This includes your trusty machine gun, different missiles and gas cans.

The could-have-been sequel to Twisted Metal Black is called Twisted Metal: Lost.  In it, the game makers stated that they were making this sequel to Twisted Metal Black, but unfortunately some of the designers were killed in a plane crash.  It is claimed the remaining game designers got a letter afterward from the dead game designers, telling them to release the unfinished game to the public.

Players can also view a documentary of the whole Twisted Metal series.  No only that, but they can also review never-before-seen endings of the first Twisted Metal.

This game is a great deal, no matter how you slice it.  This game has a lot to offer at a budget price of $20!  The game makers obviously wanted this game to be more than a quick port of Twisted Metal:  Head On!
