On behalf of all Unifor Local 2002 members, I must express our disgust and disappointment with the decision made by Federal Employment Minister Patty Hajdu to invoke Section 107 of the Canada Labour Code. By doing so, the government has ordered Air Canada Flight Attendants into binding arbitration with Air Canada and forced them back to work—stripping them of their right to free and fair collective bargaining.
This move is nothing short of an attack on workers’ rights across this country. Every time a government sides with corporations over workers and interferes in the bargaining process, it weakens the ability of unions to fight for fairness, respect, and dignity at the bargaining table.
Our sisters and brothers at CUPE, representing Air Canada Flight Attendants, are simply exercising their fundamental right to withhold their labour in the fight for fair compensation and recognition of the critical work they perform. For the government to step in and silence that fight on behalf of one of Canada’s largest corporations is shameful.
This fight is not just about Air Canada flight attendants — it is about all of us. If the government can trample on their rights today, it can and will happen to any group of workers tomorrow. We must remain united, vigilant, and ready to push back against these attacks on collective bargaining.
Unifor Local 2002 stands in full solidarity with the flight attendants of Air Canada and with all workers whose rights are under threat. Together, we will continue to fight for respect, fairness, and the right to bargain freely without government interference.
In Solidarity,
Tammy Moore

The Aeroplan and Air Canada Bargaining Committees recently convened at the Unifor Local 2002 headquarters in Toronto to initiate a collaborative approach in preparation for the upcoming round of collective bargaining.
This marks a crucial and strategic step forward, as the new collective agreement will impact over 7,000 members nationwide, including employees in Airport Operations, Revenue Contact Centres, and Loyalty Contact Centres.
During the meeting, both committees expressed their commitment to working together in unity, with a shared focus on transparency, member engagement, and securing a fair outcome for all. This joint effort underscores the importance of a coordinated approach in addressing the needs and priorities of members across Canada.
The committees also confirmed plans for their next joint meeting, scheduled for September. Key milestones in the months ahead will include:
Drafting and distributing a national member survey
Scheduling proposal meetings
Organizing sessions to review and incorporate member feedback
As the process unfolds, the Bargaining Committees remain dedicated to maintaining open communication and fostering active engagement with all members. Regular updates will be provided to ensure members stay informed and empowered throughout the bargaining process.

Quick update from UMHQ this week 04/17/2025
Hello everyone,
The Company annouced increase in hours of operation, for september they are increasing the Vancouver office open until 2 am. The Montreal office will be open 24 hours.
They gave us a very detailed report on upgrades around AI. Always the fear is about what work we potentially could lose. It was a progess report we had in the past things are moving slowly for now.
Work from home the union requested discussion around more agents being granted access and also asked about the idea of hybrid shifts eg. 2 days in the office 3 days at home. The company said they were not opposed to the idea. Hoping for more discussions around thhis in the near future.
There was some discussion around leads, improving the department by allowing leads more freedom to be the one stop resolution the company always talks about.
The Next few months will be interesting, Although we are not yet feeling it more training is on its way so keep aware.
Take Care,
Ross.

In our July 2024 update, we mentioned that we were waiting for amendments to federal Income Tax Regulations (ITR). We are pleased to share that these amendments were approved and implemented in March 2025.
While there are still several steps and approvals needed before voluntary separation packages (VSPs) can be offered to employees or make lump sum payments to pensioners from the Share Trust, this is a significant milestone.
Now that the federal ITR amendments are done, the Company is pursuing a tax ruling from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) which will be followed by one from Revenu Quebec. The Quebec ruling will require an amendment to Quebec income tax regulations like the federal one. The Company has already started work to move forward with these rulings (and all the other steps), and now that we have the federal ITR amendment, the Company will be re-engaging with CRA for their ruling.
Unfortunately, the federal amendments took much longer than we would have expected or wanted, even with support from all parties. As a result, it's unlikely that VSPs and lump sum payments to pensioners will be offered or paid before early 2026. The Company has committed to moving forward as quickly as possible, but they don't control the timing for all approvals and conditions, so further delays are possible.
Thank you for your patience and support as we navigate this process.

Dear Members of Unifor Local 2002,
On February 26, let's come together to recognize Anti-Bullying Day by wearing pink. By doing so, we stand with those who have experienced bullying and reaffirm our collective commitment to fostering workplaces and communities that are inclusive, respectful, and safe. Together, we can make a real difference.
The Story Behind Pink Shirt Day
In 2007, students in Nova Scotia stood up for a classmate who was bullied for wearing pink. That small act of kindness sparked a global movement, showing that when we unite against bullying, we can create lasting change.
Let’s Take Action on February 26
We encourage all members of Unifor Local 2002 to wear pink as a symbol of our values:
Kindness over cruelty
Unity over division
Respect over discrimination
Bullying isn’t just a childhood issue—it happens in workplaces, online, and throughout our communities. Its impact is often devastating, particularly for marginalized groups. By standing together, we can challenge harmful behaviors and create safer, more inclusive spaces.
Solidarity in Action
Unifor Local 2002 members are making a difference every day by:
Speaking out against bullying and discrimination.
Building inclusive, welcoming workplaces.
Fighting for fairness and equity.
Encouraging open conversations to challenge harmful behaviors and promote understanding.
We also recognize that bullying and division are sometimes used by those in power to distract from the real issues facing workers and communities. But history has shown that when we stand together, we achieve meaningful victories.
Join Us in Sending a Powerful Message
This Anti-Bullying Day, let’s make it clear: bullying has no place here. Wearing pink is more than a gesture—it’s a commitment to creating spaces where everyone feels safe, valued, and respected.
Share your stories and pictures with us on social media. Send your pictures to pinkshirt@unifor2002.org or tweet them using #Pinkshirt2002. We will post them to recognize your commitment to a bully-free workplace.
Let’s take a stand together. On February 26, wear pink and help build a world where everyone belongs.
In solidarity,
Tammy Moore

Dear Union Members,
We want to bring to your attention that the company is conducting itself in ways that are contrary to our collective agreement. They have been posting acting positions without notice and assignments that have not been approved by the union and are not in conformity with our agreement. Additionally, we are deeply concerned about the way attendance issues are being handled, as the company is not following the progressive steps outlined in labor practices, leading to unfair treatment.
Rest assured that your union is taking all legally positive actions to challenge these violations through the grievance process. We remain committed to protecting your rights and holding the employer accountable.
We also encourage you to keep us informed of any concerns or violations you may be experiencing. Whether it is attendance, monitoring and measurement etc... If there are issues we may not be aware of, please bring them to our attention so we can address them effectively.
Stay strong, stay focused, and continue the great work that you do every day.
In solidarity,
Your Bargaining Commitee

Happy Lunar New Year Everyone, May the Year of the Snake bring everyone good health and Prosperity.
Updates, Our Bargaining Committee will be meeting with the company week of Feb 09, 2025. We exchanged proposals just before the Christmas Break. There will be minimal updates until we have news to bring back to the membership to Ratify. This agreement will bring us to 2026, then we go in to bargaining with the mainline.
Many received emails from the company that Cross training initiatives have been initiated. During the transition period, there maybe questions about functions. We are working hard to dissect and ensuring that scope is being respected during these confusing times.
Your Union Team.

This is a communication to all Unifor 2002 workers,
Unifor is closely monitoring ongoing negotiations between Air Canada and its pilot union – ALPA (Air Line Pilots Association). ALPA members are looking for fair compensation, improved benefits, and enhancements to current working conditions.
Earlier this year, ALPA members voted 98 percent in favour of strike action if a deal could not be reached with Air Canada. If the pending pilot strike does occur, it is certain to impact all of us in some capacity, even those of us not employed with Air Canada or with one of its affiliates.
Note: Air Canada Express (which includes operators Jazz Aviation and PAL Airlines) are not involved in current negotiations. These operations are scheduled to continue normally.
Here is a brief Question and Answer document in the event of pending strike action.
Question 1: What is strike action?
Strike, or job action, occurs if a contractual agreement cannot be reached between the negotiating parties. Strike action may include a range of possible measures, including overtime bans, work to rule, rotating strikes and full walkouts. None of these measures can legally be taken without a favourable strike vote.
Question 2: When can the strike begin?
If an agreement cannot be reached between the parties, and ALPA issues its 72-hour strike notice, the pilots may begin strike action as early as early as 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday, September 18.
Question 3: What is a Lock Out?
An employer may not wait for a union to strike. The employer can serve a 72-hour lockout notice and deny employees access to the workplace. The result is the same as a strike, only that the employer has removed the service of employees instead of the employees removing their services.
Question 4: Is the ALPA strike legal?
Yes. To date, ALPA has followed the legal and necessary steps - according to Federal Labour laws - to pursue strike action. The last step (if an agreement cannot be reached at the bargaining table) will be to provide 72-hours advance notice of their intent to strike. The right to strike and picket is part of our fundamental rights of expression and assembly in Canada. Striking workers have the right to picket their employer’s premises and the premises of its allies or related companies.
Question 5: Do I cross a picket line to get to work?
Workers not involved on strike are contractually obligated to report to work at their regularly scheduled time. However, picket lines may cause substantial disruption and delays. At no point should any Unifor member be disciplined if they are delayed/late to shift due to actions beyond their control. It is the employer’s responsibility to ensure your safe passage into the workplace. If you do not feel safe crossing a picket line, please contact your employer immediately.
REMEMBER: Respect is a two-way street. We should respect our ALPA Sisters and Brothers in their right to strike. One day we may be in the same situation and will ask for their support.
Question 6: Can I support striking ALPA pilots?
You may support striking workers by asking if you can join their picket line when you are not scheduled to work. (You should not wear and/or display any of your employee-related clothing or attire.) Bringing refreshments and snacks is another way to show support and is usually very appreciated.
For those not familiar with picket lines, they can be very uncomfortable when you are forced to cross. People are naturally nervous and emotions can run high. However, an information picket should be a positive place and a chance for all workers to show solidarity for each other, even when some are compelled to work by law.
We will keep you updated as details become available.
In Solidarity,
Tammy Moore
President, Unifor Local 2002

The Company has posted for Acting Position Coach.
The Union has concerns about the scope outlined in this posting. We previously told the Company we were not comfortable with the job descripion as it conflicts with the language in Lou 11. The company was origianlly going to post this as an lou 17 training/coaching position. We brought up our concerns and offered a few alterations they in turn chose to post it as Acting to by pass the union's suggestions and proceed with the same job description. We will be challenging the job description and highly recommend the union member think hard before applying. We can never be in a position that could lead to discipline. It is a 60 day posting and has you speed listening and reporting to management what you may find. Until now the Company was respecting the lou 11 language on monitoring where you need advance notice provided before any monitoring. With the recent terminations with out warning and not respecting the negotiated steps of discipline we feel the Company can not be trusted in good faith and they will use this for other than coaching and supporting our agents needs.
In Solidarity,
Ross

Hi All,
Hope you are well.
The company wants to move ahead and create coaches from our employee group that will support the agents. We advised them that we had concerns that unionized agents should not be involved in creating goals and timelines for agents to improve performance etc.. We said the agent coaches can train, support, help but not to monitor and report to management on eachother or randomly call listen.
We said No to the company and said that most of this role is management under the terms of L11
They have said that they will still go ahead and post the position. We do not want conflict amongst our unionized group so we simply wanted to give you a heads up on the union position for this posting. We will challenge this through the grievance process if they go ahead as an LOU.
Also,
The company has been using their new AI systems to analyze the way agents work and they get reports of all agent activity. We are very concerned as it is being used in a way that is punitive to the agents. Some are being investigated and drawn into Article 16 meetings.
We are pushing back to the company and saying the intent to monitor and measure is to support, train, and develop tools and methods of work to better the workplace.
The new system is flawed and does not work properly. We have gotten testimonials of this and would need more to be shared from you.
Nonetheless, we never had this sort of thing happen to our group in the past.
We ask you to be cautious when doing the great work you do.
Do not put members on hold as soon as the call comes in.
Do not put members on hold and disappear for long periods of time.
Do not call leads or travel ops and then hang up after waiting for long periods of time.
Do not extend your breaks and lunches
Do not stay on not ready for long periods of time without working on a file
Do not hang up on customers ie. flushing calls
ETC.....
These are some of the things that we believe they are investigating. We have never in our history been at a turning point with this new technology. We will keep on pushing back and insisting that relationship building and coaching, training is the method to improve the workplace.
Please advise us in writing if something does not seem right in the way you are being spoken to or treated. Working from home does not give us the eyes on the operation like we have had for decades.
This is a trying time as the company may think that agents are totally disengaged and not communicating with each other.
We are headed into a bargaining year and Solidarity is of the utmost importance.
Stay alert and stay tuned.
In Sol,
The Bargaining Committee

August 06
Good day,
Our agents have been advising us that the KPI's have become difficult to achieve and are causing them overwhelming stress and anxiety.
Please be conscientious when muting clients, putting clients on hold for too long, or staying on a dead call or waiting on a silent call. Go back to your clients frequently.
This is Totally Unacceptable that management holds them to a punitive tone on what the union has always believed to be Variables when it comes to KPI's especially that the focus is on a singular points.
We ask that management support agents and create an environment of growth.
L11 is quite clear in its description on monitoring and measurement.
Letter of Understanding No. 11: MONITORING AND MEASUREMENT OF WORK PERFORMANCE L11.01 L11.02 L11.02.01 L11.03 L11.04 L11.04.01 L11.04.02 L11.04.03 The Company and the Union recognize the stress that individual monitoring and measurement creates for employees if it is perceived as, or is being utilized in a manner inconsistent with the purposes as set out herein. It is not the intended purpose of monitoring or measurement to place unreasonable restrictions on employees or to discipline or discriminate against employees. Monitoring – The purpose of monitoring is to support the processes of employee counselling, training and development To ensure that any stressful effect on employees is reduced, each employee will be advised prior to the Company undertaking any monitoring in accordance with L11.02. Measurement – The purpose of measurement is to provide the necessary information to determine the level of service to customers and to establish staff requirements. In recognition of these concerns, and to ensure that monitoring and measurement continue to be utilized by the Company for the purposes intended, it is agreed that a Joint Review Board consisting of management and designated representatives of the Union, will meet at the Headquarters level as often as required: To review, on an on-going basis, the utilization of monitoring and measurement equipment and processes currently being used or being considered for use in the future; To investigate and review complaints; and To report to the UMHQ level on a regular basis.
Agents are still looking forward to the day where systems, processes and any support function becomes seamless.
There needs to be true appreciation of what call center agents do and what they have to deal with day in day out!
The agents' testimonials of their difficult work days are immeasurable.
Please document anything that you feel to be toxic, intimidating, and a violation of your rights.
There is no place for a toxic environment!
Keep us informed! You have Rights!
In Solidarity,
The Bargaining Committee and Your Union Representatives

We last communicated with you regarding the Share Trust in October 2023.
As explained in that October update, several conditions must be met before any VSPs (Voluntary Separation Packages) can be offered to employees or lump sum payments made to pensioners from the Share Trust. At the time, we mentioned that since we did not expect that all conditions would be met before at least the third quarter of 2024, we anticipated that VSPs or pensioner lump sum payments would not be offered/paid before the end of 2024 at the earliest.
Since we do not control the timing for satisfying all conditions, we also explained that it remained possible that there could be further delays beyond that.
A key condition was the receipt of the government’s approval to amend the income tax regulations (ITR), which would then allow us to pursue the remaining steps and conditions. We are pleased to inform you that we have now received a comfort letter from the federal Department of Finance confirming that it is prepared to recommend to the Minister of Finance the requested ITR amendment at an early opportunity.
Please note that this comfort letter is good news, and while we expect the Minister of Finance to accept this recommendation, there is no guarantee that the recommendation will be accepted by the Minister or that the amendments to the ITR will be done quickly. However, this comfort letter does allow us to advance our work to pursue other necessary approvals (though some of these are ultimately dependent on the income tax regulations actually being amended).
At this stage, with the other approvals and conditions remaining to be satisfied, it is not expected that VSPs and lump sum payments to pensioners would be offered/paid before sometime during the fourth quarter of 2025, at the earliest.
We very much want to move forward without more delays but since we do not control the timing for obtaining all approvals or satisfying all conditions, it remains possible that there could be further delays beyond 2025.

June 13, 2024 Summary UMHQ June 5th.
Hello Group, What we discussed at the meeting,
The meeting started with a lengthy presentation from Anthony Doyle. He spoke about Future projects around AI (Rosie) Chat bots and overall improvements he wishes to implement through tech changes. We listened and could see potential issues around employee engagement. It will be some time before this will be rolled out and we will monitor how this potentially could hurt jobs for the membership.
Maggie gave us an operational update, We can see the call volumes have dropped. They claim due to improvements on their end. Its clear as wait times have been less and ro has been offered. The Company also stated they are no longer dumping calls we couldn't get to. As a result sadly the company said Hiring is on pause.
Issues we raised,
Training, The company had mentioned they wanted to train name change to res. We addressed that only simple changes this work belongs to back of the house aeroplan, we are opposed that any res agent will be sitting on a closed Q doing this work. We also told the company that all Loyalty employees will get this training before any Gen Res agents.
Pay role issues continue we told the comp[any it has to stop enough hardship on the employees. We suggested they put us all on the same system Gen Res is on. They claimed that it was not possible in the upcoming months a system will be implemented for all employees. They stated they are committed to correct errors in a timely manor.
Leads, This was well debated the obvious outlier is fraud or compliance. We asked for the leads to be given the tools to eliviate these issues and not pass the issues on for the next level to address. We were clear of this disservice to our customer and the frustration this causes the employees. We reminded the company this issue has been discussed for 2 years and it was moving at a snails pace. Unacceptable. The company will be engaging the leads in the hope that through these conversations certain functions leads do can aleviate some of the problems. we will have to keep pushing to make sure this change happens.
WFH kits, the comp[any was told it is unacceptable to not have the process in play that gets these kits to you in a timely manor. The seems to blame everyone but thier actions. IT, shipping we have to wait for parts unfortunately we wait. They spoke of in house processes that should eleviate these problems in future. We reminded them to respect deadlines.
We spoke about Retirement Phase in, and decided that we will negotiate on going outside of the UMHQ. more to come.
It was a good meeting overall the committee communicated our position,
Take care,
Ross.

May 21, 2024 **** Good News ****
Hi All,
Just would like to update everyone on an outstanding issue that was discussed recently at our district meeting. It is now resolved.
All Canadian based AC employees will be eligible for the VSPs, no matter if they are in a DB, MEPP, DC or hybrid plan and no matter when they were hired, including all Unifor represented employees which includes Aeroplan employees.
We still do not have any dates as to when this will be offered as the government still has to approve the funds for distribution. This may not even take place this year.
In Sol,
Your Bargaining Committee.

March 22,2024
Hello Everyone,
Just to give you an update. The Bargaining Committee met at the UMHQ this week, below is what was discussed.
The company stated that they will keep hiring in April, and possibly in Sept, Oct and will pause for the summer months as they feel they are getting closer to the numbers they need.
With respect to the telework program they will be canvassing in the next few weeks for other agents who wish to work from home. The company will be allocating an additional 20 kits to agents in Vancouver and 26 kits to agents in Montreal to work from home. This will keep 75 percent of the office working from home. All this should be completed by the first weeks in May.
We discussed issues with the compliance/fraud department violating our scope work. The company has agreed that they should not be manually handling any files that are aeroplan related. They will be advising them to seize and desist. If they do not, we will simply follow through in the grievance process.
We pushed for more leads to backfill vacancies. The company seems to be fine with the numbers they have.
The company indicated that since training will stop due to not having new classes this summer, all Lou's will be returning to the operation during that period.
They also have stated that the company is no longer participating in the T2200 government program as they do not meet all the criteria as an employer and work from home is voluntary. So basically, work from home expenses are no longer eligible for income tax purposes.
They are unable to create timebank indicators on our paystub, so if you have questions on how many sick days or family responsibility days you have left. Email scheduling.
Vacation reconciliation should take place by the end of April. Communication from the company to come soon.
Profit sharing checks should be issued some time in May and it's based on some formula that the company determines. The company will be putting out a communication soon.
Company stated that they will begin sharing the results for surveys on customer service. They will begin by sharing this on a global group basis.
The company has said they are looking at all aspects of agents' work and absenteeism. They will be addressing those that exceed their allotments by higher margins as well as those who have patterned absenteeism.
They also said that they have noticed some agents misusing telephonie and not being productive due to certain behaviors that they will share on a case by case basis. They also noticed a pattern of inappropriate language on company social platforms which is totally unacceptable. They will repatriate agents to the office who are not meeting overall company standards and who they deem need more coaching and support. Conversations will be had with the agent and the union before any steps are taken to repatriate.
We have always stated to the company that metrics are variables and many are not controllable by agents and that training and coaching is essential to support agents. The company emphasized that Conduct and professionalism is essential for a positive work environment.
Nonetheless, we strongly advise anyone who falls on the company radar that is excessive in not following instructions, procedures or not working effectively, For the serious cases they may request you to come work from the office.
That is it for now,
In Sol,
Ross McConkey
Jacky Lui

Mental health impacts all of us. In any given year, 1 in 5 Canadians experiences a mental illness. By the time Canadians reach 40 years of age, 1 in 2 have—or have had—a mental illness.
Mental health should not be talked about just on campaign awareness days. We need to continue the conversations, continue to challenge stigma, educate ourselves, and support members who may be struggling.
Last year, the Ontario Regional Council Employee & Family Assistance Program Standing Committee created a t-shirt to raise awareness of the importance of mental health, both on the job and in our personal lives, and to help eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health. Now, this popular t-shirt is available to members across Canada in English and French!
Show your support by purchasing and wearing an "End the Stigma, Mental Health Matters" t-shirt.
You can order your t-shirt online for $20 until Friday, March 15 for delivery by mid-April, in time to wear it during Mental Health Awareness Week from May 6–10, 2024.
Send photos of you and your fellow members wearing the -shirts to communications@unifor.org or tag the union on social media posts so we can help end the stigma together and promote mental well-being for everyone.
Place your order now at uniforstore.com!
Resources on Mental Health
Hand-in-hand with awareness is access to information on prevention.
No workplace is immune from mental injury hazard. That is why our definition of occupational health and safety cannot be limited to physical well-being—it must include mental well-being as well.
With most adults spending more of their waking hours at their workplace than anywhere else, addressing issues of mental health on the job is crucially important.
Together, we must keep this responsibility to ourselves and our co-workers in mind during any work activity.
Securing a workplace that promotes workers' psychological well-being and actively works to prevent harm to worker psychological health is a key function of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Committees.
Just like any other hazard at the workplace, OHS Committees need to recognize, assess, control, evaluate, review, adjust, monitor and maintain the program.
OHS Committees can take advantage of the National Standard of Canada for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace (the Standard), which identifies psychosocial risk factors (workplace factors).
Canadians in every region can dial 9-8-8 for suicide prevention and crises support.

Hello Everyone, a couple of things to be aware of,
You all need to be aware and cautious of time between calls and after calls are disconnected. I have attended a few meetings with respect to this. Make sure the console is aware of any issues you are having that are system generated that cause lags in time or gaps before you take your next call .Report any anomalies. The company likes to refer to the unreported as theft of time so be vigilant and report. Most of you are on top of this I know but this is where the company has shifted their attention so just a heads up!
Attendance policy, some of you already have had meetings about attendance. The policy has changed you used to get a discussion, then a record of discussion, then a letter of expectation ( L.O.E.) They now go straight to L.O.E. They seem to not be giving the agent a heads up now. The above is deemed not disciplinary but the L.O.E. does refer to discipline if further sickness occurs. Another change the Company has implemented is the after receiving the L.O.E. the next sickness a doctors note is required. The change is that we used to not be required until the second occurrence. We plan to discuss this at our next UMHQ.
We expect training this year so be prepared as the Company has stated they want to start with their one stop shop plans, Res will be done by the Loyalty and vice versa. We shall see how this works. The union has made it clear the back house jobs are off limits and are now working through a disagreement on this issue.
Good news a new class has started today please welcome them if you see them walking around 14 in total!!!
I hope we all have a stress free 2024
Take Care
Ross.

Today, Unifor members in the aviation sector are rallying at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport as a Day of Action for better working and travelling conditions.
Low wages, unpredictable hours, multiple part-time jobs to make ends meet and harassment are just a few of the issues faced by thousands of air transport workers at airports across the country.
These issues are wreaking havoc across the industry causing a worker attraction and retention crisis that industry and government refuse to properly address.
Unifor is shining a spotlight on its Air Transportation Workers’ Charter of Rights, asserting the actions taken by the federal government and airport authorities to solve travel chaos are not enough to solve the root of the problem— inadequate working conditions.
Join us today for a Day of Action at Pearson International Airport in Toronto on Mon., Dec. 18 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. as we push them to finally deal with the root causes of travel chaos by improving wages and working conditions in the sector.
Please meet at Terminal 1 outside the domestic Departures area at that time. We’ll also ask members to head to outside the Arrivals area at Terminal 3 to spread our solidarity throughout the airport.
Take a stand to say aviation workers deserve better than to face unpredictable hours, low wages, harassment, and contract flipping.

************ Call to Action*******************************
November 3, 2023
Dear Local 2002 Activists,
Martin Melanson (Local 2002 Vice President – Atlantic Region) invites all political activists interested in
supporting Canadian Aviation to join him on a Zoom call on Thursday, November 9th at 1900 EST.
It's clear that the aviation industry in Canada has been facing significant challenges, especially with the
ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Many of our members have been affected by layoffs, and
airlines are struggling to stay afloat amidst base closures, flight cancellations, and travel restrictions.
Unifor National has been raising awareness about the challenges facing the Canadian aviation industry
and advocating for government support. Advocating for the support and viability of the Canadian
aviation sector is crucial, not just for the industry itself but also for the broader economy and the well-
being of Canadians.
If you want to be part of this effort, please email Martin at martin@unifor2002.org to receive the Zoom
link for the discussion on November 9th @ 1900.EST. Your active involvement can contribute to the
efforts to secure the future of Canadian Aviation.
Across Canada let’s add our voices and advocate that keeping Canadian Aviation is viable and
paramount to Canada’s economic recovery.
Let's come together to advocate for positive change and support this vital industry.
In Solidarity,
Tammy Moore

****************************** UMHQ UPDATE***************************************************
Hello Everyone,
Jacky and I just returned from our UMHQ held in Calgary this week. Below is what was discussed
We brought up the office policy and debated the different experience the WFH folks endure than the agents from the office. Mostly around the Cell phones and how the folks working in the office are being told to put them away. We were very clear about how it should be applied loosely. The cell phone is a apart of evolution who we are in this century! The company was concerned about pci compliance, we replied you need to trust your agents and that if they really were that dubios that could happen anyway.
We questioned agents from res doing our work as some of you have discovered. We were told training will be starting soon as the equiptment is in place. We told the company any trainings have to happen at AE at the same time as the AC training.
We asked about phase 3 work from home. The company responded that phase three survey could be coming as soon as next week, they showed us we are very close to 75 percent so it will only be a few getting accepted this round keep your eyes peeled for the surveys.
We brought up payroll and the countless issues we have endured the Company committed to work on the process and iron out all the issues
We requested a written office policy on extreme weather due to the mis hap from last year we explained with the changes to weather changes are likely we could be facing another extreme event and we without any doubt want to be prepared.
We reminded the company that it is taking most agent 5-10 minutes to sign into the computer,
We brought up Fraud and how the problen is not going away and how when we used to do it the department was smoother leads had more authority to help our customer. The good new is they are introducing a pilot project to allow our leads more skill to handle certain fraud cases. The pilot is about five agents and the company should be canvassing very shortly.
We also ask for back office to have more tools so they can be more efficient in help our agents and customers.
We asked when we are hiring new agents in Montreal potentially 2 more classes this year and Vancouver they resume next year but have not got solid dates yet.
It mostly was a productive meeting and we will update as things unfold,
Thanks
Take Care
Ross.

08/31/2023 re: Family Responsibility Leave
Clarifications on the policy in regards to FRL. Here is what your Bargaining Committee has negotiated back in March 2023
Reasons to use FRL listed here
March 14, 2023 at 12:00 PM
This is to follow up regarding Air Canada Aeroplan’s implementation of the new federal legislation on paid sick leave, which was shared on February 23, 2023.
Your Unifor Bargaining Committee continued discussions with the company, and we are pleased to share the following information on what you can expect from the new paid sick leave provisions being introduced:
Effective immediately, ten (10) Paid Medical Leave days and 64 hours (full-time) or 32 hours (part-time) Family Responsibility Leave hours will be made available to you.
The new Family Responsibility Leave hours will replace both the Family Care Days (as described in Article 11.10.01 of our collective agreement) and the “Federal Family Responsibility days”, so that instead of 3 paid days (FR), you will have a single allotment of Family Responsibility Hours which can be used for any of the reasons listed under the federal Family Responsibility code (see link).
If you are using Family Responsibility Leave hours on a day where you have picked up an additional shift, the hours of the additional shift will also be deducted from your Family Responsibility Leave hours.
Medical Leave days will be deducted in 1-day increments, whether you call in sick before the start of your shift or part-way through your shift as per the code. However, Family Responsibility Leave can be used by the number of hours required.
If you are scheduled to work a double (including partials) but you are sick that day, you will be paid for both shifts however it will count as two (2) Paid Medical Leave days.
OTHER IMPORTANT DETAILS
Any sick day taken between January 1, 2023 and now will be deducted from the 10 Medical Leave Days. If you reported the absence due to Family Care (under Article 11.10.01) will come out of the 64/32-hour Family Responsibility hours. If you find any errors in the company’s conversion, please notify your District Chairperson.
Employees may bank any unused Medical Leave days, to a maximum of 14 days, for use exclusively during the waiting period for GIDIP benefits (The GIDIP Bank).
During the GIDIP waiting period, employees shall deplete available days in the following order:
A) Any days of Medical Leave available
B) Any days in the GIDIP Bank; and then
C) Any hours in the employee’s existing sick bank (Legacy Bank)
Withdrawal from these banks will be made according to the employee’s preceding work schedule.
Existing GIDIP Bank balance up to now will be moved over to the Legacy Bank, remain in hours, and be depleted in hours.
If you have any questions, please contact your District Union Office.

Hello Everyone,
I need to discuss the shift survey and how we use them to develop shifts and how we have to honor what we write on them. The committee goes through and keeps record of all request. The utopia would be when the requests match the Company's requirement unfortunately every shift build there comes a point where it is not possible to keep filling requests because the requirement will not be met. It is important to keep your shift survey current and to list other options like first choice as well 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc. It is part of what the committee tries to do is get you an alternative from your list if they can not build your first choice. But please remember to be realistic as your shift should focus around what your seniority is.
Very Important , If your shift gets built from your request you must take it. If you were to take someone else's shift it snow balls and forces others to also have to make alternative choices and it becomes a massive problem for many. We have never forced that what you chose is what you get but this last bid it affected many. So again please take the shift that is built for you.
Appreciate you taking the time to understand this,
Ross.

Based on your own individual requirements and health priorities, you decide where to spend your Health Spending Account dollars. For a Limited Time Period Unifor Local 2002 Health and Welfare Trust will make available a spending account for each eligible Member. This benefit is fully funded through funds previously negotiated through the Collective Agreement process. Since these funds are derived from the EI Rebate, they cannot be used towards the GIDIP benefit enhancements. This benefit is tax-free to Members, except in Quebec where it is taxable by the provincial government. What You Should Know: Effective Date: August 1, 2023. You will be able to submit receipts for expenses incurred from August 1, 2023, through to July 31, 2024. Claims must be received in the office of the Plan Administrator by 12:00 noon (EST) July 31, 2024. Any unclaimed credit amounts at the end of July 31, 2024, are forfeited. You can also submit claims for your dependents (spouse, common-law spouse, and children) including parents and grandparents who are considered dependents under the Income Tax Act). Who can receive Health Spending Account Payments? Payments from a Health Spending Account are only made payable to the Member. Therefore, dental claims that may be assigned cannot be reimbursed from the Health Spending Account to the dentist.
HEALTH SPENDING ACCOUNT BENEFIT 2023-2024 Types of Expenses you can claim through a Health Spending Account: You can use the Health Spending Account credits for expenses considered eligible by the Canada Revenue Agency such as (but not limited to): • Deductibles or co-insurance • Prescribed medications such as Viagra or fertility drugs • Major dental work including bridges, crowns, dentures, and orthodontics • Vision care expenses including laser eye surgery For more information on expenses considered eligible by the Canada Revenue Agency, visit their website at: www.cra-arc.gc.ca/ (enter Lines 33099 and 33199 in the Search box).
How do I submit a claim under the Health Spending Account: Claims that are not covered or not paid in full by your Group Insurance Plan can be submitted under the Health Spending Account by completing a claim form downloaded from the Unifor Local 2002 GIDIP website and attaching the receipt(s) and explanation of benefits. Send the application to gidip@canben.com. Up to 100% of allowable expenses can be reimbursed. All eligible claims covered under your Group Plan must first be submitted to your Group Insurance Plan (regardless of whether you have previously reached your maximum for a specific claim). Claims eligible under your Group Plan will only be considered upon receipt of a copy of the receipt/claim form and a copy of Payment Summary indicating the Service Dates. Please note that a Claims Summary indicating the Submitted Date will NOT be acceptable.
Please note, electronic and cut and past signatures on the claim form will not be accepted. The Plan Administrator requires a ‘wet signature’ to consider a claim submission. How will you know your Health Spending Account balance? When your claim is paid, you will receive an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) statement via e-mail that itemizes the amount claimed, the amount eligible, the amount reimbursed, as well as your remaining health spending account balance. Hello everyone, I hope your all finding some time to enjoy this summer we are having,
A couple of updates,
Keep your eyes open for the Gidip health and Spending Account this year its 300.00 for full time, 150.00 for part time. The Application process will commence August 1st and this year it will be electronic. Instructions will be available shortly. Please keep in mind this is for expenses that occur from August 1st or after.
The Company has committed to backfilling a vacant T-ops line after July 31st. and adding relief lines for the fall schedule bid. Stay tuned as this will be communicated in detail closer to the dates.
At the recent Umhq The bargaining committee spoke about the constant failures of the system and the stressful toll it has on the agents. They seem to believe things are better now and not as bad as they were when harmony was launched. Again we spoke loud and clear about the company could not be further out of touch from what you all experience. This issue is far from over.
We spoke about how we need the Company needs to implement the proper sick and family responsibility bank info as we are having many issues and tracking time is very difficult to impossible. They claim this is something they are finding hard to install but are actively searching for a solution.
We asked about reconciliation and why it was delayed till may this year, and asked for it to be more around March if possible.
We asked about wfh allotments for the rest of the year. The company responded that we are at 75% and they will not permit anymore for 2023.
We had high lighted our concerns about call recording capturing conversations when agents are not with customers. The Company explained they have to be on a active call for it to record any conversation.
We discussed Hiring, The Company informed us that between the two offices 3 more classes were planned for this year, Montreal just filled one so 2 more left for 2023.
The hope is you all have a good summer before the busy fall presents itself.
Take Care,
Ross

BC Day Stat Printing Error
For those of you that use the Unifor Calendar, please note there is an error showing what day the Civic holiday is in August. The correct date is Monday August 7, 2023 not August 1.
Welcome to another edition of GIDIP Disa-Bulletin. In this issue, Your GIDIP Board of Trustees’ focus is to highlight GIDIP Plan Design improvements.
GIDIP APPLICATION DEADLINE
Many GIDIP claims get delayed because their documentation is incomplete. To assist your Plan Administrator in getting your GIDIP application processed in a timely manner, complete claim documentation is required. A complete claim application includes:
1) Plan Sponsor Statement completed by Air Canada
2) Member Statement, completed by you
3) Attending Physician Statement, completed by your physician
These three claim statements, known as ’written proof of loss’ must be received by the Plan Administrator within 3 Months after the 7-day waiting period. We recommend submitting your claim application as soon as possible following the 7-day waiting period. If claim documents are received after the 3 Month period, your claim will be declined as a ‘Late Submission’.
EMPLOYEE SICK DAYS
Employees of Air Canada are provided with 10 paid sick days per year. For your general information, this does not change the 7day waiting period for your GIDIP claim.
TRAVELLING WHILE ON GIDIP
Should you wish to consider travelling during your disability period, written permission from your attending physician is required prior to your departure as well as the approval of your Canadian Benefits or Manulife Case Manager. Your trip should not have a negative impact on your recovery. Your benefits may be carved out or terminated without prior approval.
During a “modified” return to work, shift trades, vacations, and leaves of absence are not permitted prior to your return to work.
Please notify your Canadian Benefits or Manulife Case Manager, as soon as possible when you’re planning your return to work. Your Case Manager needs a minimum of two (2) weeks' notice to arrange a return to work with Air Canada on your behalf.
If you are planning to return to work after your claim has been declined or terminated because you did not meet the definition of disability under the terms of the plan, please notify your Trustee and your Case Manager of your intention. You have the right to appeal, and many claims are subsequently approved, usually as a result of additional medical information not previously submitted.
ELECTIVE PROCEDURES AND BENEFITS FRAUD
GIDIP benefits are not payable for surgical procedures elected for cosmetic purposes.
Unfortunately, Benefit Fraud hurts us all. You can be part of the solution. If you suspect benefit fraud, please fill out the form in the link provided with the Insurer:
Manulife will keep this information confidential and use it only for investigative purposes.
If you are on claim and working, or receiving any other income, please notify your Canadian Benefits or Manulife Case Manager immediately.

April 20 2023.
As I am able to communicate to you more changes that have come forward about the sick policy, please read the bulletin the company released from scheduling,
The coding is changing no more absents w/ permission it will be coded unusual absence.. this will prompt you to explain to your manager your circumstances.
The other change in coding missing agent will now be coded Abs without permission.
The policy has been adjusted Four different times and I communicated different info earlier and have had to re-advise twice now. Sorry if that has confused some of you as that information was clarified and still changed and we were living this in real time.
Family responsibilty leave FR.
When you call you will have to provide who when why. If you request a Dr appointment for yourself it will code you unusual absence and prompt a conversation with your csm.
If you request time to attend to a love one it will code you FR.
These changes we are told comply with are from the new sick policy that has recently been inserted by the Federal Government.
Please continue to send any coding that occured befor this was finalised that appears to be coded different to what you requested and we will work to get it correct.
Take Care,
Ross

Hello Everyone,
To help facilitate the fixing of bank hours from the company coding please send a quick email stating the following,
The Date
The request, for example 2 hours FC and a whole day was given
What you received from the company (the code applied ) and what they took from your bank.
This would be applied from Jan 1 until now. Some of the coding may be correct so please double check. This switching over to the new sick process and banks has been evolving . The company has an obligation to fix the codings that were applied in error.
I will compile the emails and forward to the company on your behalf. At the onset if I filed grievances for some, please forward nothing as they will be put forward on your behalf.
The quicker we can forward to the company the quicker they can start working on this list.
Take Care,
Ross.

UMHQ UPDATE,
Good Morning,
The Bargaining committee just wrapped up our meeting on Tuesday March 4 here are some of the highlights
We had requested Reading Time, understanding how important being educated before you jump in everyday is to our members you would think this was a no brainer. The Company immediatly after much debate rejected our request. They stated they already do enough through huddles and info sheets.
2nd round of Tele Work, Most likely end of April May you will be contacted if you are eligable and you will get a speed test. Early july most likely you will get your laptops and be on your way. It will be similar to last time over a few days.
The Company requested a few weeks ago that they wanted to do Power listening, basically agents will listen to 5 calls and grade these calls that our colleagues were taking. We rejected this practise for a gambit of reasons but most of all this is QA (management) territory we foresee a number of issues that could impact our agents negatively.
We spoke about Compliance and the endless fraud calls we are getting. We offered they bring this work back into the bargaining unit, they refused. They commented they have hired 2 more managers and claim that the backlog shoud be cleared by end of April.
We asked when we could expect to see our time banks on our pay stubs, and the corrections still outstanding to coding errors with the new sick policy. They advised us they our still working on it but said hopefully shortly.
We highlighted the training issues we are having in both offices and the company needs to de-centralize this much needed function.
Other topics,
The Company advised us, do to our complaint, ABS absence coding for appointments ect, will be re-instated. But they did say when applicable they request notes.
A change to the Family Responsibilty Leave in how you requested was explained. You will have to call into the IVR sick line it will give you five options, please follow all of the options or it will attach a code and you will have to deal directly with your TM. This process you will have to advise why you are requesting the FR time, again please be aware how you request this anything SICK will prompt you a whole sick day. The Company said any requests that are not the standard eg. like blood test physio perhaps need to take child to doctors may prompt a follow call from your manager. Again if everything is explainable you need not worry.
Take Care
Ross.

March 30, 2023
Hello Everyone,
A quick update for you,
The new sick day policy is in effect a few things you need to know,
Only call in sick for full sick days, they do not recognise partial or hours so use it for whole day instances ONLY.
Your Family Responsibilty Leave (64 hours) can be used for partial or hourly. Make sure when requesting this you dont mention sick time, in fact you are not required to advise the company who or why you need to use them.
The Company has advised they will not be allowing absence requests ABS for dr appointments or anything any more, your union has filed a grievance for this and will advise you as we progress and for the time being please use FRL .
Jack and I will be traveling to Montreal Sunday for the UMHQ meeting and I will advise you shortly after the high lights from this meeting.
There will be no coverage in the office on Monday the 3 and Tuesday the 4. All reps have other committments unfortunately. Please reach out by email I will monitor from YUL if you need assistance.
Take Care,
Ross

Feb 23,2023
Hi everyone,
Yesterday evening, your Unifor Bargaining Committee was advised by Air Canada about its new Paid Sick Day Policy following the new federal rule that was put in place on December 31, 2022. The policy stipulates that members of our bargaining unit will (from now on) have 10 (ten) paid sick days per year (from January 1 to December 31). Therefore, sick time will no longer be calculated in hours. This means that members will be deducted one-day from their sick bank no matter how long their scheduled shift was.
The company also indicated that if in the even a member leaves sick at any point during their shift, they would be deducted 1 (one) full sick day.
Furthermore, the company informed us that Family Care Days (as described in article 11.10.01 of our collective agreement) will no longer exist. Air Canada specified that members can use the 3 (three) paid Federal Family Responsibility Days, and 2 (two) unpaid days per year (if needed).
Your Unifor Bargaining Committee strongly disagrees with this interpretation and will be challenging the company. We believe some aspects of it will be detrimental to our members’ interests. For one, the Family Care Days are part of our collective agreement and cannot simply be erased. The disappearance of the part sick days is also an issue.
Unifor will be filing a policy grievance today and we will keep you informed of any development to come.
In solidarity, Your Bargaining Committee:
Ross McConkey
Vince De Sua
Jacky Lui
Angelina Trignano
Frances Galambosy
Leslie Dias.

We are pleased to inform you that Unifor Local 2002 has concluded an agreement to upgrade the services offered by our Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provider.
Life Works already provides EAP services to other non-unionized and unionized employees at Air Canada other than Unifor. As of now, all members have access to a new joint service package with Life Works. By combining EAP service programs, we will enjoy the same features as before and more. For example, members will now also have access to basic virtual medical consultations.
We believe that Unifor members will benefit from a more comprehensive EAP experience at a better price by joining with other groups already using the same provider. This agreement is for a trial period of one year and we can opt out at any time if we are not satisfied with the service level.
Life is complex filled with challenges such as finances, relationships, retirement, and health concerns. We invite you to consult the link below to view the services offered by Life Works.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to one of your Union Bargaining Representatives or EAP Coordinator if you have any questions.

Quick update,
In Toronto at our UMHQ
last week we discussed a few items,
The Federal Governement has lesislated 10 paid sick days, as our contract has 8 we will recieve 2 extra days 10 in total to be used as FC or SK. These should be available in the new year.
We highlighted the fact that whoever is in charge of Compliance (fraud) is failing and somthing needs to be done, you deal with the customers and the multiple call backs to have their issues resolved. We requested this work come back to the call centers.
I spoke about the snow day of horrors, I requested a policy and contingency plan like blocking hotel rooms in case of the worst. It was mentioned the agents that we denied superflex and due to lack of rest should be compensated for that day.
We talked about the new hire wage and that starting wage should be raised! cost of living is around $25.00 per hour. The Company claimed they were aware. We will be having further talks around this in the future.
Any of you that have to do the internet WFH Speed Test again heres a tip for you. Make sure no one else in the house is online, streaming or gaming it may make the difference.
Be careful on the roads most are skating rinks and starting this afternoon 15 cm of snow is expected. Drive slow keep distance between you and other cars and do not slam your breaks.
Take Care
Ross.

Firstly I need to address the message Delicia sent out about bathroom breaks, Unbelievable to me during a very stressful time as we are the guinea pigs to perfect the Harmony System, That bathroom breaks are an issue for the company. YOU TAKE THEM WHEN YOUR BODY SAYS SO. Again anyone who is questioned about taking a bathroom break needs to report this to the Union! I wish I could just schedule the breaks for myself but unfortunately its not up to me.
Vacation bid should be annouced soon I have spoken to scheduling and advised its geeting a little late to be doing this. Hopefully this week we have more info.
Please continue to work at a speed that is condusive to your well being.
Take Care
Ross.

Dear Colleagues,
Air Canada and your Unifor Bargaining Committees (Revenue and Loyalty) are very pleased to announce that we have reached an agreement on the next steps to further expand the Telework program that will be introduced across the Customer Contact Centres branch in Canada. For our Customer Relations colleagues, the “work-at-home program” will be renamed Telework program and the necessary IT equipment required will be referred to as a Telework kit.
INTRODUCING TELEWORK 2.0
Telework will be available to all frontline employees in Revenue, Loyalty and Customer Relations. To be eligible you will be required to maintain an acceptable internet speed, a safe and secure designated workspace in your home and reside within a 120-minute radius from your office base.
Those interested in participating in the Telework program will need to respond to a survey that will be sent to your work email the week of November 7.
The program will be rolled in phases beginning in November 2022 and ending in November 2023. A certain number of telework kits will be made available at each office and awarded to eligible employees based on seniority. A greater number of kits will be allocated to our Saint John Revenue office to facilitate a telework pilot program launching soon. To address the employment gaps we have been experiencing, a select number of new hires will be brought into the company as a remote work force. This will allow us to better leverage our position to attract and retain new employees in an increasingly competitive job market and allow us to gain experience in onboarding a remote work group.
Our goal is to offer Telework to all frontline Customer Contact Centre team members in a controlled manner to allow a successful employee and management experience. The company and the union have agreed to a joint committee to review the work-at-home option for these functions.
LOOK OUT FOR THE TELEWORK SURVEY
With Telework 2.0, we will take another step in becoming a world-class environment for our employees while delivering excellent customer experiences.
Please look out for the telework survey in your inbox. Over the coming weeks, we will provide more information on program timelines and on the internet speed test requirements. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to speak to your local management and union representatives.
Thank you for your ongoing support and commitment to the Telework program.
