I need to remind you about your rights, some meetings have occurred lately with CSM'S. The discussions were around calls the analysts have provided to the CSM'S to address. This is a violation of the collective agreement. Firstly the company agreed to language around what calls they are allowed to produce at meetings. You have to be advised in advance of such calls that they wish to review. The random calls can never be produced in meetings with your CSM. The company agreed to these processes and never negotiated anything different with the union, so the fact that they once again they are barging ahead and conducting these meetings in violating your rights. Monitoring calls can only be used for coaching as per your collective agreement. If you are asked to attend any meetings to talk about any call you need to contact the Union immediately. Do not attend these without Union involvement.
Take Care
Ross.

Message from the bargaining committee,
Aeroplan: Payroll system error
In January the company asked the union to meet and discuss a payroll concern that affects many of our members at Unifor 2002. The union agreed and met on January 24th. During this meeting the company advised us that due to a payroll system error, 462 employees had been over paid, while another 52 employees had been underpaid. This system error occurred between 2011 and 2012 affecting a total of 514 of our members.
During this meeting the company disclosed details of this pay error and explained how our members would be impacted financially.
After receiving all the information, we strategized to ensure that members would be impacted as little as possible. After several additional meetings it was agreed that all impacted employees will be shown a paper trail (including pay stubs) of where and when these individual errors occurred.
Employees will be able to repay the payroll error by using one of the following methods or a combination of methods (as per the selection form):
overtime bank
sick bank
GIDIP sick legacy bank
pay the full amount by one (1) cheque
differed payment
payroll deduction
The company has agreed to reduce the amount taken from the pay roll deduction from $150.00 to $75.00 for full time employees and $75.00 to $35.00 for part time employees. We strongly believe that this will provide relief to the employees that need to repay.
Additionally, Aeroplan has agreed to remove $500.00 from every member that was overpaid and owes money back due to this error. This means that any employee who was overpaid by $500.00 or less would have a write off of the overpayment that they had. It also brings the amount of affected employees from 462 to 86 and the 52 employees that had been underpaid will get the full amount paid back to them.
It is important for employees to read and understand the multiple options they have for the repayment process. If you do not wish to use all the options of repayment but rather just use the ‘payroll deduction’ option ($75.00 and $35.00) you do not need to fill the Election Form For Method of Repayment – this is the default option for repayment.
The bargaining committee believes that under these circumstances they were able to reduce the negative financial impact to the membership by providing multiple options for repayment.
In solidarity,
Your Aeroplan Bargaining Committee:
Vince De Sua
Stephen Lussier
Ross McConkey
Jane Winfield
Cheryl Robinson, Local 2002 President
Marcel Rondeau, Local 2002 Executive Assistant
Leslie Dias, Unifor National Representative

Delegates celebrate ‘the full force of our union’
Nearly 180 delegates and guests attended the Local 2002 triennial convention at the Unifor Family Education centre in Port Elgin, Ontario on May 27-28, 2014.
The convention enables elected representatives to debate and vote on resolutions, engage in informative discussions and presentations and to collectively strategize and seek solutions in these challenging and changing times.
For the first time at convention, social media played an ongoing role in communicating to delegates and members. Twitter, Facebook and Flickr (photo sharing) were all utilized in real time allowing followers to interact remotely. Incorporating these tools allowed for greater access and transparency for everyone interested in Local 2002’s convention process.
Be bold, says Dias
Although Unifor represents 796 different locals and nearly 3200 bargaining units across Canada, National President Jerry Dias revealed his in-depth and informed comprehension of our local and our particular issues in an impassioned kick-off to convention.
"Think about the proud Unifor members who, through no fault of their own, have lost their jobs and about the failure of government to protect workers,” he said in his opening remarks. "We can’t allow what happened to [contracted out] United and Impark members to continue to happen.”
Dias called on members to be bold, and said they must make dramatic gestures to achieve justice in the [transportation] industry.
Retiring from the job; not the fight
Outgoing President Jamie Ross detailed and applauded the efforts of the leadership, executive assistants, co-ordinators and staff of the Local. She spoke of our many successes over the past three years.
"I am very proud to have served you for the past three years as your president,” she said. "You have become empowered and engaged; you are heard, and you matter.”
Financial report
Financial Secretary Wade Ireland presented the Local’s financial statements and a detailed accounting of expenses over the past three years, explaining the new dues structure, negotiation expenses and administration at local headquarters.
Democracy at work
Our Local 2002 bylaws are the rules and regulations that govern our Local. They can only be changed or altered at convention when delegates debate and vote on various resolutions submitted by districts, the local executive board and the bylaws committee. This year, many first time delegates made their way to the microphone to offer their perspectives on a variety of issues.
Young Worker’s Committee
With 35 members spread across the country, the goal of our newest committee is to give voice to all young workers. During an energetic presentation, regional representatives Alison Buckner, Simon Lau and Jimmy Zahnoun called on delegates to spread the word and encourage the ‘leaders of tomorrow’ to come forward.
"You can ask us anything,” said Alison, describing the committee’s interactive web page. "And if we don’t have the answer, we promise to find it.”
Together We Can Make a Difference
Kicking off the second day of convention, advocates Linda Mryka and Jacqueline Collette launched a new initiative from the human rights department entitled, Together We Can Make a Difference. Colourful posters were handed to each delegate to take back and display in their respective bases. Watch our local website over the coming months for updates about this important campaign.
History of Local 1990 in the making
Over the years, guest speaker and retiree Christine Hayvice has worn many hats in our union: president, activist and local communicator to name a few. She is currently preserving the history of Local 1990 in a book commissioned by the Local Executive Board. Look for this educational and entertaining read later this year.
Electronic voting
In a detailed presentation, Tim Cheung (from Pacific region) presented delegates with the pros and cons of electronic (web-based) voting. E-voting may increase voter participation and be beneficial if used in conjunction with workplace balloting. The Executive Board has had much discussion around this timely issue and is looking forward to an expeditious implementation of e-voting.
GIDIP fund in good hands and good shape
Canadian benefits representatives Lynn Cross and Roy Rastrick gave a presentation to GIDIP members from Aeroplan, Air Canada and CLS regarding the Group Insurance Disability Income Plan. Questions regarding the fund were answered and changes and enhancements discussed.
The spirit of solidarity
After months of preparation, days of reports, intense debates and decision making, the final evening in Port Elgin was an opportunity for delegates to celebrate one and other in the true spirit of solidarity.
"Everyone at convention should be extremely proud of the work they have done and continue to do on behalf of their membership,” concluded Local 2002 President Cheryl Ross. "We have made some serious decisions and defined our commitment to work together for the next three years in order to best represent our members.”
Local 2002 is unique; we represent over 10,000 members in more than 160 different workplaces across Canada. Under such challenging circumstances, it seems almost miraculous - even with the help of administration assistant extraordinaire Nicole Campbell - that we can get our leadership all together in one place.
And that is when the collaborative magic happens; at the beginning of convention, delegates discuss challenges and obstacles and by the end they share similarities and solutions.
Now that is solidarity at work.

Hello Everyone, Busy time in the union office,
I would like to Congratulate Luis Melendez in the winning of the Election for VP. Luis brings a vast amount of union experience with him and will be an asset to have working , and representing us at the EB level.
The Company came to us about 4 weeks ago stating that the TD business was greater than they had anticipated as a result," well you all our experiencing" higher call volumes. So they pitched an additional 1000 hours per month. We have been trying to negotiate a process outside of having a bid to implement those hours. The fact is where these hours are needed are through out the operation and to respect seniority we have to have a phones bid. I will update you with more info later.
The UMHQ in May was quite a full agenda, I will post the minutes when I can. The Company was well aware of the constant system failures and frustrations you face daily on the floor. The Company also acknowledged the MFFR process was unfair and since the meeting they will now honor the original quote you receive. Among other topics discussed the Company has a new GIDIP process that will help streamline the countdown with the forms available for you to print on the portal. We demonstrated how clunky and inferior the putting your arm to have a lead come and the many problems that are showing up from it.
Continue to work at a level that's conducive to your health.
Ross.

The Company severed 7 managers yesterday, some were your CSM. Unfortunately most of these managers were respected by their union employees, they took the time to build relationships and treat the employees fairly. The Company cited their performance was sub-par. Well get ready at first we believed the Company was acting responsibly and reacting to their budgetary shortfalls but have since learned they plan to hire new managers to replace the ones they have let go. This is a clear indicator that the goal here is to ramp up monitoring to ramp up productivity. The Company use to stress the importance of relationships as the core essence of the role of the CSM. As they try to unravel the mess RT has created on the leads department by trying to limit the calls you are allowed to forward through to YOUR resource ( the leads department), they continue to band aid bad and broken processes. You again are the guinea pigs to test out these for the most part already been there done that ideas. Again adding stress to you and how you complete your work.
The Company is heading down a path of performance, productivity at any cost, (a human cost). So remember their stats are for training and support not discipline so pay attention to the idle threats from your CSM about your stats. Please report any bullying to me I would be honored to grieve this on your behalf. We have definite language to protects us from the stress that style of management. We need to stop this in it's tracks.
As I have advised in the past take time for yourselves, one call at a time, work at a speed conducive for your health. You work harder for the Company and nothing improves for you.
Take Care,
Ross.

Hello Everyone, In the middle of yet another Shift Bid and yes more changes. The Company requested once again more week-ends and more later shifts. It was a difficult schedule to build as we have endured this kind of adjusting for the last 2 years and yet deeper they dive. Your shift committee work very hard to mitigate the changes and in the end produced a schedule to you that was the best that could have been achieved. I need to let you know some of the challenges we are addressing right now that will impact the next bid. The Company chooses not to implement Relief as per your collective agreement for support and support leads. We with out dispute feel they have to, and we will continue this fight to highest level to get it re-instated. On the last schedule before April 2013, we had 30 relief agents for support that the company decided to close . This and disqualifying our agents when they bid out of an area is a misguided and punitive attempt to squash shift trading , something all agents have had a right to since the start of our careers.
These types of interpretations of the agreement and policy's that change our working lives negatively, only serve as a wedge from where trust and morale are jeopardized . We will observe the new schedule and determine the requirement set forth by this company to be legit if we can prove otherwise this will presented at the UMHQ level.
We also have been faced with broken processes and policies that make it very difficult to do our jobs. They continue to stress on productivity and KPI that are increasingly harder and harder to achieve. In turn, instead of understanding the current nature of the business the Company continues to push you to meet these targets. You can only do what is in your capacity and please continue to let your CSM'S know what you are dealing with ie, 30 minutes to speak with a lead, RT customer failures and the increased number of people just calling for basic information. All of these take away from anyone be able to generate revenues, the only thing the Company wants to focus on.
These issues will not go away, None of them are anything you really have control of, so remember to gauge any criticism that comes you way, do the best you can and stick up for your-self when you need to. Health first, and stress is an article of clothing none of us should be wearing.
Take Care,
Ross.
