Rain and possible thunderstorms (60%) did not keep this determined group of paddlers from heading out to explore a part of the Lynnhaven River. We put in at Lynnhaven Boat Ramp & Beach Facility off Shore Dr. at the foot of Lesner Bridge. Stuffing our money into the corroded honor box slots (see pictures), we all headed out.
An immediate downpour of rain greeted us as we paddled out of Crab Creek into the Western Branch of the Lynnhaven River! A few more light showers caught us but we kept on and were rewarded with blue skies and sunshine. We passed Church Point, Thoroughgood Cove and Witchduck Bay before turning back to come ashore on a beach at Pleasure House Point to stretch our legs and have a snack. Putting back in, we wound through a small cut to go into Pleasure House Creek, going past Bayville Golf Course and stopping at the pedestrian bridge at Shore Drive. We grouped up for some photos then headed back to Crab Creek. Ominous black clouds were approaching from the south and we all agreed it was time to take out. True to our luck, the downpour held off until we had all loaded our boats. We drove to Rita’s Italian Ice and Gelatos on Shore Dr. for our treat. Joining Marti and Ellis on this rainy day adventure of 8.74 miles were Bill B., Phyllis, Vic & Margaret , Ken, Bruce, Bob M., Dottie, Bob S. and John F. Everyone agreed it was a nice paddle and we all want to explore more of this waterway in the future.Marti
