We had a good group of 18 last Tuesday for our Bike Ride. There was Marti & Ellis, Margaret & Vic , Jane & Ed, that ‘s all the couples. Then there was Bob H, Bob M, Bob S, one Brian, one Jim, One Jeanette, and a Sandy, and a Sandra, along with Mark, and Carl and back from New York, Don, and of course me.
We headed south towards South Mills riding on the N.C. Bike Path and there at the bridge we moved over to the back roads and made our way back up towards the Rest Area on Hwy. 17. The trip cover a little over 20 miles with just a little head wind but all had a good time and some wanted to ride even further, so Brian decided to do another 21 miles on, as he put it, on flat land. After driving from Toana where he live he wanted to enjoy this new bike.
We were back at the trail head by 12:45 P.M. so we ate our lunch there on the picnic tables next to the canal. Then most everyone walked over the Draw Bridge to see the State Park Visitor Center, where we got to see 2 bears standing there for all to see, even Ellis got to see them. I told him there was bears in those woods, even though these two were stuffed and inside the building.
We will have a paddle next week, but sadly I want be there because of the work (bad word) that I will be doing at Shea Street. Hope to see all at the Trail Maintenance on Oct. 14, 15.
