FUN TRIP TO FALSE CAPE
Its nice when you can turn work into fun and all have a good time with friends doing something worth while, and that’s what the Tuesday Group did on this past Tuesday. In anticipation of what a few of us will be doing next week, I arranged for our Tuesday Group to ride into False Cape State Park for a Fun Work Day. We all gathered at Little Island City Park at 9:00 A.M. and loaded onto the park bus. I drove everyone through Back Bay Wildlife Refuge and into False Cape State Park down to Wash Woods where the Chief Ranger had all the lumber stacked and ready for us. On the way down we dropped Bob S, off at the park office to work on an up-coming GPS class.
On this Tuesday we had 16 from our Tuesday group and two visitors, from Pennsylvania, that Margaret and I had met on Sunday. They are staying at Sandbridge and enjoy biking, hiking, kayaking and volunteering with friends, so we asked them to join us on Tuesday. Along with Lou and Natalie, we had Jane O, Dottie, Diane, Phyllis, Kama, Marti, Sue, Margaret, Ed, Carl, Ellis, Ron, Bob M, Bob S, Dewey, and yours truly. Half of the group worked on cutting the deck boards for the dock that we will work on next week. The other half of our group worked on taking apart 4 picnic tables of the 25 tables that the park has and reinstalling new boards.
At 12:00 we stopped for lunch and all loaded onto the bus and I drove over to the Environmental Education Center, where everyone sat on the deck over looking Back Bay and had their lunches. After lunch we drove back to the work area and finished what was left of our work. At about 2:00 we went for a hike out to the platform, that our group had built over 3 years ago. We finished our hike around 3:00 and headed out of the park, picking up Bob S. along the trail. We arrived back at Little Island at 3:40 and as always some made a stopped at Pungo Pizza & Ice Cream Parlor. This was another enjoyable Tuesday Group Outing and I would like to thank everyone for their help on these projects, which will help us greatly next week.
