As sponsor for Tuesday's farm "walk-about" some might say I am a little prejudice, but I don't think so. I really think yesterday's walk was theperfect storm!!!
We had the best group and the best event possible for a rainy, windy, cold day. I cannot think of anyone or any group of people I could have gone with and had it turn out to be as much fun as we had!! The day's awful weather didn't stop 20 from showing up, all geared for whatever Mother Nature threw at us,and it was a lot! It was a day some will never forget but not only because of the weather. One walker proved just how much of a city person they were by commenting, "This is really neat. I've never been this close to a planted field before. I've only seen them from the car." Others learned about Tillage Radishes and their purpose as a winter crop.
And all saw for the first time a website picture showing the path Rt 460-Alternate will take in that area if constructed. They saw how the field we were standing beside would be wiped out by Rt 460-Alternate. Being able to compare the picture with land they were on at that moment gave everyone a better understanding of the situation, and why so many are keeping fingers crossed the 460-Alternate will not meet Corps of Engineer standards. All that said, however, perhaps the best part of the day for many chilly walkers was returning to the wood-stove generated toasty warm Big Belly Hunt Club for lunch and the ice cream social. Tuesday Group activities are so much fun, and, just like the flu (which I pray no one came down with yesterday), they are contagious -- yesterday proved that for me!! My thanks to everyone...we will be talking and laughing about this walk for a long long time.
Sandra C PS. As an aside, yesterday proved just how tough we are as the weather was too bad to bring our dogs!!
