Oak Grove Lake Park
Jan. 4, 2011
It seem like everyone was out on this day. With the holidays being over they all wanted to start the year off right with a hike. I had a new place to hike for our Tuesday Group there in Chesapeake. It wasn’t a very long walk around Oak Grove Lake, but I added 3.5 miles to the 1.5 miles trail around the lake. We walked through two of the neighborhoods and got some strange looks from the people as 21 hikers, some in camouflage, other with full packs, walking stick, and with (4) four legged hikers. Guess they thought the neighborhood was being evacuated or taken over by seniors. It wasn’t just a hike for people, we had Shadow, Dale, Dillion and Ginger, along with Bruce, Margaret J, Bob S, Ellis, Marti, Glen, Brian, Susan,( a first timer) Curt, Carol, Jane O, Phyllis, Sandra, Margaret P, Vic, even Rosanne, Bob M, Bill, Linda, Bob Z (hope to see him back) and our famous writer Ed.
We left the parking lot around 10:00 and our first stop was the porta- john next to the lake. Cold days and hot coffee you need frequent stops along the way and I had two more, one at the Hardees and the other at a 7-Eleven Store close to the end of the hike. As always Phyllis supplied the energy food for all, with her chocolate. The plan was to hike the five miles and then go to Woods Barbeque for lunch, and the candy was just to help us get there. To make a long hike short, we all made it. Back at the parking lot a little after 1:00, all but 3 headed for the restaurant. This place was on Battlefield Blvd. about a half mile from the park, as the crow flies, and we were there in a few minutes. This was a very good restaurant for us, not crowded, good food, and fast service.
Next week Merchant’s Mill Pond Hike, with Bill Rogers, hope to see everyone there also. Don’t forget to carpool.
