"Spectacular" may be the best way to describe our bike ride today. Despite winter's close approach, we had temperatures in the 60s. Threatening clouds gave way to fluffy white ones and blue sky. Winds predicted to knock us over came instead as gentle breezes (with occasional gusts). It was a perfect day for a ride. Twenty two Tuesday Groupers (Ellis, Marti, Tricia, Bruce J, Rose, Bruce M, Dick, Mark C, Mark B, Jean, Sandy C, John F, Jim N, John O, Bill B, Diane, Steve, Stephanie, Ken,Katrina, Ron and Phyllis) assembled at Newport News Park for our ride to the Yorktown Battlefield. We welcomed new member Rose--new to Norfolk from Australia and Greece! Then Bill made a presentation of two "Cat Herding Horns" to me and Ellis to help control wayward Tuesday Groupers. We blew our horns, mounted our bikes and started the ride. We rode the path through the woods to Washington's Redoubt, cut through to the National Park and took a break at the Visitor Center. Then we gathered at the Victory Monument for our requisite group photo. Afterwards, it was a little too early for lunch so we pedaled down to the river and then up to visit the cannons. Nobody climbed on the cannon today-and only one cannon was there. The other cannon must have heard we were coming and took off. We didn't spend too much time with the cannon as we were hungry and eager to get to the Yorktown Pub. Most of us ate there though a few opted for the Carrot Tree. We were joined at the Pub by Margaret and Jane who were out antiquing. Jane got a pass on the ride today because of her broken arm. (Jane plays wide receiver for a neighborhood touch football team and took a heavy hit a few weeks ago. She hopes to get the cast off this week.) After lunch, we made the grueling ride back up the hill and continued on through the park. Before long we were back at the parking lot and saying our goodbyes. Tuesday Group goodbyes can take a looooonnnnnnggggg time.
Looking forward to our next great adventure!
