Our Hike made the record books. We had thirty nine people and several dogs on our First Landing State Park hike. I guess the word is out as to how much fun we have on our Tuesday adventures. The day was sunny with the temperature in the seventy’s with light winds; truly a wonderful memory for those who participated.
We started our hike by visiting the marker to the world’s largest s’more per the Guiness Book of World records. We crossed the boardwalk to the beach where we could see ships at anchor on a calm sea. Then as if on cue the aircraft carrier USS George Bush sailed out of the Chesapeake Bay into the Atlantic Ocean right before our eyes. It was truly a remarkable sight. Crossing over the dune to the campground area we saw several good camping sites. Re-gathering the Group we crossed over Shore Drive walking past the Rental Cabins to the New Visitors Center then over to the Long Creek Trail with its gorgeous views of Broad Bay framed by Spanish moss. Without a doubt this is one of the prettiest spots in the Park. Taking Kingfisher Trail back to the Cape Henry Trail we worked our way back to our vehicles. Our total hiking distance was 9.2 miles. Once at our vehicles we drove the short distance to Ellis and Marti’s home where we celebrated Phyllis’ birthday with candles, cake and of course ICE CREAM. Thanks to everyone who came. It was another amazing day for the Tuesday Group.
