First Landing State Park Hike Jan.24, 2011The temperatures rose (YEAH!) and the sun (what is THAT?) shone down on 20 happy hikers as the Tuesday Group met at First Landing State Park for a hike. Ellis led us up onto the beach where treasures were found, Dale chased her ball into the water’s edge and we all enjoyed the start of a pleasant day. After walking the beach into Ft. Story a bit, we turned around and went back up the beach and into the park campground. As we crossed the boardwalk, Bruce spotted a red fox in the dunes and most of us were able to observe him. Walking across Shore Dr., we took the road past the cabins then a trail to the new visitor center (still being constructed). We went onto Bald Cypress Trail to Osmanthus Trail then back to the main trail leading back to the main parking lot. Returning to our cars, Bob Z. reported we had hiked 7.1 miles. Of course, we had to reenergize so the group decided to meet at C.B.Shuckers just down the street. After good lunch and conversation, we said our good-byes. Celebrating being outside on a beautiful winter day were our leader Ellis joined by Marti, Margaret & Vic P., Margaret & Bruce J., Bob Z., Bob M., Carl, Van & Kama, Jane, Maureen, Phyllis (with Dale), Dewey, Don, Ron & Sue, Mike G. and Dottie.
