Social/Political

For this project we were assigned to create a photo that showed a social or political issue. I chose to do my social or political issue on animal cruelty. I chose animal cruelty because I have always cared a lot about animals and how people treat them. I used my Canon Rebel T5 to take this photo and the darkroom/ cyanotype process to print them. Some of the photographic techniques I used are: close up is used because of how close I am to the cat and the cage. Selective focus is used because the cat and the cage are in focus and the background is blurry. Rule of thirds is used because the cat fills two thirds of the photo. Grouping is shown by the square shapes that the cage makes. The cage represents leading lines, because they draw your eyes to the subject of the photo. Lastly, low key lighting is shown by the dark colors. I used the following elements of art in my artwork: line is shown by the metal wires that make up that cage, they show line because they draw your eyes to the subject and throughout the photo. Shape is show by the geometric shapes created by the crate and the cats eye. Texture is shown by my cats rough fur. To add interest to my composition, I used these principles of design: The balance used in this photo is rule of thirds because that cat take up two thirds of the photo. The black and white colors and the rough and smooth textures represent contrast. There is emphasis on cats face because it is the only thing in the photo and the leading lines also daw you to its face. Pattern is shown by the squares created by the metal wires on the crate. This image makes me feel proud because I really like the way the cyanotypes came out.
