Concentration

For my concentration I focused on close up/ macro images, but as the year went along I started to focus more on food coloring. I did my concentration on food coloring, I put food coloring in milk and I also put food coloring in a wine glass with water. I decided to add food coloring to milk and the water, because I like the pop of color it adds to the white milk and clear water. I like to add bright colors to everyday life because I think that it cheers people up and makes them happier. For a couple of my photos I used red, white, and blue to show the colors of the American flag. Bright colors often bring people happiness and joy so I wanted to add bright colors like yellow and orange to my images to lessen the amount of unhappy people.

For the majority of my images I put milk on a plastic plate, put different colored food coloring in the center, and finally I put a q-tip with soap on the tip in the center of the food coloring. For some of the images I also used a toothpick to swirl round the food coloring. For two of the photos I filled a wine glass with water and dropped food coloring in the top. I really like the photo of the wine glass with the shadow behind it because the shadow is red which I think makes the image more intriguing.

For this project we were assigned to find a concentration and take 12 photos that followed your concentration; my concentration was food coloring. I used my Canon Rebel T5 to take these images and photoshop to edit them. Some of the photographic techniques I used are: the colored lines in every photo represent leading lines, in some photos there are little colored dots that represent grouping, in every photo there are different balances that are used for example in the photo of the girl rule of thirds is used, in all but two photos high key lighting is shown by the vibrant colors, in most of the photos angle down is used because I had to point the camera down to take these images, all of these photos uses close distance, and in some photos like the two wine lass images selective focus is used because the glass is in focus and the background is blurry. I used the following elements of art in my artwork: in all but two of the photos the food coloring represents color, in most of the photos the swirling designs represent line, throughout these images there are many different shapes like the circles shown in the the first photo, and space is used in these images too, in the last image the wall in the negative space and the glass is the positive space. To add interest to my composition, I used these principles of design: there are many different balances used in these photos but in the first photo formal balance is used because both sides of the image are the same, in all the photos you can see contrast in the opposite colors, you can especially see the contrast in the two black and white images, in most of the images there is emphasis on the food colored swirled or the wine glasses, in the 10th photo there is emphasis on the red food dye because its the only color in the photo ad its the subject of the photo, and in each photo there are different patterns that are make by the food dye.
