Positive and Negative Space

For this project we were assigned to take a image with lots of positive or negative space. I used my Canon Rebel T5 to take this image and photoshop to edit. Some of the photographic techniques I used are: selective focus because the background is blurry and the plant is clear, rule of thirds is used because the plant takes up 2/3 of the image, high key lighting is used because the photo is bright and colorful, the leaves of the plant represent grouping, and angle down is used because I had to angle the camera down to take this image. I used the following elements of art in my artwork: the green and reds show color, the plant shows many different shapes, texture is also shown on the plant, and the desk which the plant is on represents shape. To add interest to my composition, I used these principles of design: the balance used in this image is rule of thirds because 2/3 of this image is taken up my the plant, the opposite colors and textures represent contrast, there is emphasis on the plant because it is the only object in the image, and you can also see the pattern of the leaves on the plant. This image relates to my life because my mother and father got me this plant for Easter. Overall, I like this image because of the texture I captured on the top of the plant.
