Movement

For this project we were assigned to create a image that showed movement. I chose to take a image of two chickens that were squawking. These two chickens represent movement because they were walking around and squawking when I took the picture. I used the darkroom process and my Canon Rebel T5 to take and create this print. Some of the photographic techniques I used are: low key lighting, because of all the dark colors that are used. The chicken wire that is used represents leading lines, because they lead your eyes to the subject and the rest of the image. Repetition/ grouping is used because there are multiple of the same shape that is created by the chicken wire. Informal balance is used, because the chicken is not in the center of the photo and it is not rule of thirds because of the chicken in the back. Lastly, selective focus is used because the chicken and the chicken wire are in focus and the background is blurry. I used the following elements of art in my artwork: line is used because they lead your eyes to the subject and the rest of the image. Shape is also used is many different ways, but one example is the five sided shape created by the chicken wire. There is texture shown on the chickens feathers and on the chicken wire. TO add interest to my composition, I used these principles of design: the balance used in this image is because the chicken is not in the center of the photo and it is not rule of thirds because of the chicken in the back. There is contrast in color and in texture, but I mainly see it in color because the black and white are so distinct. There is also emphasis on the subject of the image which is the chicken, there is emphasis on the chicken because it is the only thing in focus and it is what you are drawn to when you look at the image. Patterns are shown by the striped patterns on the chickens feathers. Overall, I think that this image has a good range of values and the borders are pretty good.
