Family Dynamics

For this project we were assigned to take a image that showed family dynamic. I chose to use my sister holding a chicken because my family has a lot of chickens that we consider family. I used my Canon Rebel T5 and the darkroom process to create this photo. Some of the photographic techniques I used are: low key lighting, because of all the dark colors. Leading lines are shown by the pole in the back, which draws your eyes to the subject of the photo. Formal balance is used because the subjects are in the center of the photo, and both sides of the photo look the same. Selective focus is used because the background is blurry and the subjects are in focus. Grouping is also used because of the number of leaves and the chickens feathers. I used the following elements of art in my artwork: line is shown by the pole in the back, my sisters collar, and the chicken. The different geometric figures represent shape. Texture is shown by my sisters hair, the chicken, and the grass. Finally, value is shown by the range of values on the grey scale. To add interest to my composition, I used these principles of design: the balance used in this photo is formal balance because the subjects are in the center of the photo. Contrast is shown by the opposite colors which are shown by that black and whites, and different textures are shown throughout the image. There is emphasis on my sister and the chicken, because they are in the center of the photo. Lastly, there is a stripped pattern shown on the chicken. I think that I could have gotten whiter whites, and darker darks.
