About Me

I was born July 5th, 2002 in Portland, ME. I live with my 16 year old sister and my two parents, we have two cats and eleven chickens. The main language that my family and I speak at home is english. Im not really sure what I want to be when I grow up, but I may want to do something with animals or sports. In five years I see my self in going to a good collage. I don't know anyone besides my teacher who has gone to college for art, I do however know that one of my friends older sister is going to collage for art. I am most proud of my accomplishments outside of the classroom, I play soccer, lacrosse, and I run track. So far in track this year I have qualified for states as a freshman in three events, I was nominated for the Western Maine Conference in soccer, I play on two different soccer teams, and I have been on honor role this year. I enjoy playing soccer, lacrosse, running track, spending time with my friends and family, and playing with animals. I enrolled in this course because I wanted to become a better artist, in middle school we were required to take art but in art we only did drawings and paintings. I want to experience a different from of art. The photographers that i am interested in right now are Edward Weston, Dale Chihuly, Nate Larson, Corey Arnold, and Norbert Wu. My ideal job would probably be working at a animal shelter like the ASPCA or doing a job that involves sports. Three adjectives that others might use to describe me would be kind, respectful , and caring.

Artistic Inspirations

Edward Weston, Artichoke, 1930, 8x10”

I like this image because I enjoy taking close up images because you can make objects appear different and they make you think more. Some photographic techniques that are used in this image are, close up, low key lighting shown by the dark colors, leading lines is shown by artichoke leaves, formal balance is used because both sides of the image are very similar , and sharp focus is used because the image is very clear. This photographer is known for his black and white close up images of different landscapes, organic forms, and more. This is a strong piece of work because of the different techniques this photographer use, making this photo black and white and being so close to the object makes the viewer stop and question what they are looking at. This image makes be feel curious, because I want to know what this object is. This image also makes me feel frustrated, because I cant figure out what it is without looking at the title. I think that social skills can lead to success in the arts because having other peoples opinions on your image can help make the image stronger. The tools used in this image were most likely a camera to take the image and some kind of editing app. This relates to the real world because this is a food that many people eat, but, most people don't see their foods his close and this interesting. This image way relate to the artist culture because in his culture he may eat a lot of vegetables in his diet.

Dale Chihuly, Prussian Blue Persian with Ruby Lip Wrap, 1990, 18 x 32 x 36"

I like this photo because I like the bright colors that are used, the reflection of the glass sculpture on the black floor, and the patterns that are used on the sculpture. Some photographic techniques that are used in this image are, high key lighting shown by the bright blues and reds , formal balance is used because both sides of the image are almost exactly the same , and repetition is shown by the repeating patterns. The only reason he named this set Persian is because he liked the name. This is a piece because of the design and the bright colors that draw in the viewer, this is also a strong piece because it is a unique shape. This image also makes me feel curious, because I want to know why this artist chose to create this shape with these colors and patterns. The tools most likely used to create this piece were a coloring agent, glass, furnace, and special tools to take the glass and handle it safely. This relates to the world because creating glass sculptures is a way of life for some people, creating art like this is how some people make their income. This relates to his culture because this is what the artist does everyday as a way o live and support himself.

Nate Larson, Holding that line, part two 2015,

I like taking portrait photos because it gives you a glimpse into their lives. Some photographic techniques that are used in this image are formal balance because both sides of the image are almost exactly the same, high key lighting shown by the bright colors of the american flag, leading lines is shown on both flags, selective focus is used because the background is blurry and the subject is clear, high horizon line, and repetition/ grouping is shown on the flags. Nate is based in Baltimore, and he is a contemporary photographer and partners with local communities to create larger documentaries. This image is strong because there is not much going on in the background which makes the viewer look at the man in the middle and examine his facial expression and his clothing, when the viewers examine the man in the middle they look deeper into the background and causes you to wonder what his story is and what is going on. This image makes me feel confused, I feel confused because I don't know what is happening around this man. This artist social skills to create a great photograph, they used social skills because they most likely had to talk to men and women and ask them if they would take their picture. It doesn't look like this photographer used any tools other than a camera and maybe a app to edit this image. This image relates to the real world because this is most likely taken at a protest and right now there are many protest against Trump and fro woman's rights. This could change the artist culture because where as he way typically stay had home now that he takes portraits of tons of different people and groups he could have had to change his culture to fit into his life.

Corey Arnold Sea kitty’s Journey, 2002-2010

I like this photo because I enjoy capturing nature and how diverse it is. Some photographic techniques that are used in this image are: leading lines shown by the metal rods, the water represents low horizon line , high key lighting is shown by the bright colors, grouping/repetition is shown by the metal rods and the birds in the background, and formal balance is also use because both sides of the image are almost exactly the same. This image was taken in Alaska when Corey decided to head north and do commercial fishing. This is a strong image because it is rather simple but also well thought out , am example of this is if the cloud wasn't there there would be too much space ( sky ) and the metal bars draw you into the cat in the center of the image. If you look at the metal bars against the blue water, they aren't, both align which gives the feeling that the boat is tipping. This image makes me feel calm and peaceful because of the simplicity and light colors used in this image. While I was reading this photographers website it said that he just left a camera in one spot for a certain amount of time in order to capture images, so I think that only tools he used were his camera. This photographer must have used social skills in order to live on this boat and take images throughout his stay. This relates to the real world because it shows a cats perspective and also shows the beauty of the world at sea. Living at sea could have changed this artists culture because he might not be able to do everything that he typically does because he is not living at home, he is on a boat experiencing new things.

Norbert Wu, plate 71, MIMICRY, BEHAVIOR, 2006

I like underwater photographs because not many people get to explore beneath the surface. Some photographic techniques that are used are: leading lines shown by the patterns and the cilendar shaped objects, formal balance is used because is you split the image in half it would pretty much the same , repetition/ grouping shown in the repetitive patterns and cilendar shaped objects , and high key lighting shown in the bright colors. " Colman's shrimp have a home among venomous spines of sea urchins" This photo was taking in Komodo Indonesia. This is a strong image because the bright colors and patterns draw in the viewer but it also makes them look closer, when they look closer they figure out that there is a sea creature hiding in the stuff. This image makes me feel anxious because of everything that is going on with the bright colors and the repetitive patterns. This photographer most likely doesn't dive alone so he must have used his social skills to get his gear and a fellow diver to do with him. This relates to the real world because this is a part of the world that many people are fascinated in and most people don't always get to see it. This may relate to the artists culture, because since he is underwater in his culture he might eat a lot of fish or other aquatic creatures.
