Geometric Shadows

For this project we were assigned to take photos of geometric shadows. I chose to take a photo of a candle in a metal designed holder, I used this photo because the holder that the candle is in creates multiple cool shadows on the floor. I used my Canon T5 to take this photo. Some of the photographic techniques I used are: leading lines shown by the shadows on the floor and the metal candle holder , grouping shown by the designs made of the floor , and rule of thirds because the focus takes up 2/3 of the image. To add interest to my composition I used these principles of design: the kind of Balance used in this photo is rule of thirds, pattern shown by the patterns on the floor and the patterned candle holder , contrast shown by the opposite colors and the different textures , and there is Emphasis on the candle because all the lines leads your eye to the candle. I used the following elements of art in my artwork: color shown by the dark colors and the oranges , line which is shown by the shadows and candle holder, and there is space because the candle only takes up a small portion of the photo. This completed work makes me feel okay because I really liked how the metal design on the candle holder makes the candle look like a flower. I had a hard time photographic this candle because whenever I took a picture of the candle it would just end up as a big circle of yellow/orang light, and I couldn't use the flash because then the shadows wouldn't show up. Using this candle holder wasn't my original idea, I originally wanted to use a different holder that would produce a bunch of heart shadows . I also wanted to use a light behind a white plastic tree but that also didn't work so I ended up using this holder. This image relates to my life because I took this image in my room and The candle holder belonged to my grandmother who lives in Michigan.
