Altered print

For this project we were assigned to take a print and alter the developing stage. I chose to take a picture of my cat and use the dripping method. I used the darkroom to create this image. Some of the photographic techniques I used are: low key lighting which is shown by the dark colors, the drips of developer show leading lines, grouping is shown by the number of lines, sharp focus is used because the image is clear, and formal balance is used because the cat is almost perfectly centered. I used the following elements of art in my artwork: the developer drips represent line, you can see the different textures on the paper and on the cat, and the white areas represent negative space. To add interest to my composition, I used these principles of design: the balance used is formal balance because the cat is almost centered, there is contrast in color and in texture, and there is emphasis on the cat's face because that is were the lines lead your eyes. Overall I am very proud of these images because they turned out much better than I anticipated.
