Altered negatives

For this project we were assigned to take a negative and alter it in some way. I decided to take a negative of a flower and scratch out the flower. I used the darkroom to create this print. Some of the photographic techniques I used are: formal balance is used because the flower is almost perfectly centered, low key lighting is used because of the dark colors, sharp focus is used because the photo is clear, the scratches represent leading lines, close up is used, and grouping is used because of the number of scratches and petals. I used the following elements of art in my artwork: the scratched I made represent line, the petals and black spaces show different geometric shapes, and texture can be seen by the scratches. To add interest to my composition, I used these principles of design: the balance used in this image is formal balance because the flower is almost centered in the photo, you can see the contrasts of black and white and the contrast of smooth to rough, the is emphasis on the flower because it is the only thing in the photo, and you can see patterns made by the pedals. Overall I think that I did a good job on this project because it was my first time doing something like this.
