In this project, as we do every year, we had four art prompts that we were to fulfill—an object we despise, a self-portrait drawn at an "interesting" angle, our feet (or shoes), and some sort of corner of a building.
In class, we were given the task of starting our self-portrait. For this, we were given pretty specific guidelines: we were drawing our face from an upwards angle, and we were doing so by using one continuous line. We weren't supposed to lift our marker off of the paper until we were done, which was agonizing, personally. Once this was done, I went through with acrylic and watercolor, attempting to make this horrible demon-esque image look more like a person. However, partway through it became apparent that that just wasn't going to happen—the culprit being the horrible attempt at a mouth that I'd drawn. I decided to chop this off, and instead replaced it with what what supposed to look like a strawberry.
For the other three time capsules, the process was pretty simple: I looked at what I wanted to draw, I tried to draw it, and in the end I maybe added some color or something.
This process wasn't very fun, mostly because I don't like looking at my face, or drawing my face, or looking at AND drawing my face. Other than that very painful portion of this project, it was pretty easy and straightforward, but I'm glad that it's done. Admittedly, looking back on prior time capsule projects, I might've gotten a bit better. I'm now less scared to use color, and I've begun to vary the shapes and sizes of my projects, adding some much-needed variety. In projects like these, I'm also able (forced) to try out different styles, which is sort of fun to do. Overall, I think that I've improved in my usage of space and color, and I hope that I'll improve more in years to come.
