For our last project in Foundations of Art, we were assigned to do an independent project. We were allowed to be extremely creative with this project, being able to choose any unit we have done and show our growth from that unit. I chose the painting unit because I enjoyed it and felt like I was really strong in that unit. Doing this, I would be able to show my skill in paint mixing and application. I came to the conclusion, after a lot of thinking that I wanted to do something with a tree. I love nature and wanted to paint something that reflected that. I decided that I also wanted to do something that represented the 4 seasons, because in Maine, we experience the 4 seasons like no other. I would mix colors that had to do with each season and would paint it on the paper. I first painted a simple tree in the middle of the paper, then separated the paper into 4 equal parts, representing the 4 seasons. I started with painting winter. I painted blues and silvers. I then went onto spring, using pastel pink, orange, and yellow. For summer, I used bright red, orange, and yellow. And for fall, I used light brown, burgundy, and dark orange. If I had more time, I could've added details on the tree branches depending on the season, but painting took too long. I am most proud of my color mixing because I feel like the colors I created really resembled their season. I feel that my weakest part of the assignment was the lines between each of the seasons. I was a little bit messy on the edges, and could've easily made those cleaner. If I were to go back and fix this project, I would clean up the edges, and maybe make the tree branches more introquite.
