This first semester of Junior year, I took 2D Design. Last year I took Ceramics I and II, so this year I wanted to get back into painting and drawing. I hadn't done much art since Foundations, so I wasn't sure how I would do in the class. The first few projects we did were a little rough, but I think that was because there were a lot of guidelines I had to follow. For the first project, we had to draw exactly what was on our card for the watchamadrawit game, so we didn't have much choice in what we could draw. The second project was beautiful oops, and I felt like I had a lot more freedom in what I wanted to create. At the beginning of the year, I hadn't discovered my unique style. I think this is why my first couple projects weren't my best work. Over the course of the semester, I realized that my style was very simple and not very impressionistic.

The assignments I liked the most were the circle project and the emotion design project. I feel like these two pieces were my best work this semester because they are simple and clean. I realized that I like when art is simple but effective. These pieces were also very colorful, which I really liked. I think I struggled most with the leaf project because, although we were directly copying a leaf, I liked being able to clearly sketch out an idea and use the sketches throughout the project. This time, it was kind of hit or miss with the colors and the way we went about creating the leaf. I am not the kind of person who can just pick up some paint or colored pencils and start painting something, I have to sketch out my idea and follow the lines, which I think is why I struggled so much with this project.

By the end of the semester, I definitely learned that I don't always have to have a completely drawn out sketch to create a piece of art. For the leaf project and the duck stamp project, I tried to just go in with paint and colored pencils and although they didn't end up perfect, I definitely liked how they turned out. I think this is one of my biggest improvements this semester because I was able to create a variety of different styles of art. My work demonstrates my growth because it shows how I have been able to be a little more impressionistic.

In the future, I will try to continue to do more impressionistic drawings and paintings. I think this would be a good way for me to increase the variety of the art I create. I am very excited to continue to make art after the skills I have learned in 2D Art. I hope to not only take these skills to the next art class I take, but to continue using them throughout my career as an artist.
