Midterm Project

This was our midterm project for 2D art. We were assigned a prompt that we had to use to create this final piece of art. We were given a large piece of paper that had a bunch of circles all lined up. Any material could be used on the paper so we had the choice on if we wanted to paint, draw, etc. When I first saw what I had to use to create my project, I wasn't sure what I could create using it. I knew I wanted to have the background somehow connect to what was going to be in the circles. Then, I had a vision of doing something with the earth. I thought about all the projects that we did in 2D art and I thought of one thing that most have in common: they all connect to life, community, and unity. This is what made me decide to put the earth in the background. I knew that whatever I put in the circles would end up representing life on earth in some way. At first, I wanted to put different cultures/scenes in each circle, but, after realizing the amount of time I had to do this project, I realized that I would have to do something more simple. During the advisory period I started, I had only gotten the background painted, so I waited until I got home that night to do the circles. When I got home, I had the idea to draw and color different flags in each of the circles. This would give representation to a variety of different countries in all parts of the world. I researched what some flags looked like and made sure I included flags from everywhere. Some of the flags I included were Mexico, Great Britain, and Italy. When I finished the project, I was very proud of it and thought that I reflected everything that we did in 2D this semester.
