This assignment was to first draw 3-4 thumbnail sketches to find a position we would like for our objects to be for the final product of the still life drawing. We had to work with proportions and measurements to make sure our still life was right. After we completed the thumbnail sketches, we were to choose one to draw on a larger piece of paper. I chose to use a mason jar, a bottle of sand and shells and some feathers because I thought that those objects really represented my personality. I used a ruler to make the sections in the thumbnail sketches and the one-inch border on the still life final project. I used pencil for both assignments. For these projects, the elements of art included were line, shape and value. We had to use different types of lines to give a cool and realistic design to our projects, as we were not allowed to shade in our drawings. For example, I used curvy lines zig-zag lines. I used shape to create the shell design. Value was used to show the perspective of the objects as they are closer or further away from the eye. I changed the feathers many times because I felt that there was too much going on when I had many thin lines inside of the feathers. This project relates to my life because the mason jar was from my uncles wedding which I was a junior bridesmaid in in 2013, the sand and shells in the bottle are from my recent to to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The feathers are from my favorite store, Rustic Arrow. I am proudest of the way I showed the blurriness of the feathers inside of the jar. I struggled with the shells because when I put the bottle in my bag to go home, the shells moved all around so I had to re-do them. I think my artwork could have been stronger if I worked harder on the shells.
