Coil Pot

This assignment was to use our coil making skills to make a pot. I started by making a circular base for the pot, using a slab. I then made coils and slip and scored them together to make the pot. I think that my coil making skills need a little bit of work, so I asked people at my table and they showed me how to make them more even. After our pots were made and smoothed out, we were asked to put a pattern or design on them to make them more unique. I decided to do leaves and make them look like they were on a vine. I used a carving tool to make little leaves all connected to each other from the top to the bottom of the pot. For final touches, I made sure the edges were smooth, as people could drink out of this. It was then bisque fired. After it was bisque fired, I glazed it with teal glaze. I thought that the glaze would make the leaves stand out more, but the glaze didn't come out as I wanted it to. It came out very splotchy, even though I did about 4 coats of glaze. Overall, I was content on how the actual clay pot came out, just not how the glaze came out. I think I could've done better making sure there weren't any specks of clay in the pot, because it made it look really messy. I am proud of my coil making and formation.
