For this project, we were assigned to think of something that we liked or something that means something to us, then create that thing using materials that related to it. I decided to do my little sister, Madeline, using paper from a children's book. I started by finding a picture of her face in my camera roll, then I made it completely black and white. I printed it out and decided to use the text from Berenstain Bears books to replace the white space in the photo. I got a large piece of black styrofoam and glued a piece of black paper on top of it for my background. Then, I started cutting out pieces of the text from the books and gluing them onto the paper. When I finished this step, I realized that it didn't look very 3D, and that I could make it less flat. I decided to cut out some of the illustrations and glue them onto the paper upright so they stuck out. I placed these illustrations in the negative space so that it looked more interesting. Now that I am done my project, I wish I had added something to the negative space to fill up the portrait. I could've added more text or cut out different words and illustrations. Overall, the portrait is very accurate and looks very similar to the original photo. I wish I could've picked a photo that had more detail and was more clear, but I like how this project turned out.
