Multiple Pinch Pots

This assignment was to use multiple pinch pots to create a complex vessel or form. We had to use at least 5 pinch pots, and they all had to be combined or connected in some way. I decided to turn my pinch pots into a giant ice cream cone. I was originally going to have 4 ice cream scoops in a bowl, but then decided I wanted to try to do a cone instead. I knew that there was no way a cone would stand upright by itself, so I didn't know how I wanted it to stand. I made 5 ice cream scoops, along with a cone, making a total of 6 pinch pots. I started by making a norma pinch pot, then added the detail on the edges, making it look like it was scooped and overflowing on the sides. I tried to create the rough, icy texture by using a ribbed tool and being kinda messy with it. I slipped and scored all the scoops together, then started to make the cone. I started by making the tip of the cone by making a small triangular pinch pot. After that I added strips of clay to the edges, gradually getting wider. I ended up having a cone to put my ice cream on. I slipped and scored that, then thought about how I wanted it to stand. Mr. A gave me the idea to make it a hanging decoration. He helped me cut off the back of the ice cream cone so that it could look like it was part of the wall. After that, we fired it in the kiln. I found that the ice cream scoops broke apart from each other in the kiln. When I glazed the whole thing, I used the glaze to stick the ice cream scoops back together again. I used a variety of colors, such as, firebrick red, light pink, blue, and yellow. I found a grainy brown that I used for the cone.
