12. Scratch Board

For this project we were tasked with finding a picture that we'd had taken, and then marking it out on a scratch board. I decided to go with a picture of a lighthouse that I'd taken a few summers back. It held a full range of value and didn't look extremely complicated. Meeting the criteria for this project, I was able to include a wide range of value and different types of markings. I favorite part/best of this project was probably the base/structure of the light house. I like a how the gradient clearly shows around the light house, giving it a full range of value. I also think a did practically well on the small house detail I put at the bottom. Something that I struggled with was either the top of the lighthouse, or all the light scratches I had to put in. With the top I just couldn't get the form right, so I felt as though it was a bit deformed. Though I like how it turned out in the end, in the beginning it was a struggle. The actual scratches themselves weren't a problem of me, it was more like just a tiring process. I would done a different hatch, but because the value in my picture was so pacing, I had to use a hatching that I had control over.
