12. Donate Life Poster

DESCRIBE: For this piece we had to create a poster for the ‘donate life’ contest here in maine. Something put on my the Maine Transplant Program to encourage individuals to check off the ‘donate’ box on your driver's licenses. This piece was rather a simple one, as I only used ink markers for it. Since I did want to keep it simple, I was fairly low on the detail bar. Line, color, shape, and form can be spotted in this piece; along with a contrast against the white, black and red. Plus the emphasis I put on the objects outlined in red.

ANALYZE: Sharp focus and group were also traits that I took out of the composition rules and techniques category. The grouping being seen inside the box with all and organs, and the sharp focus being really put on the red outlined objects. In the beginning I wasn't actually going to add so much stuff inside the box, instead just going for a simple heart. But towards the end, after drawing in the heart, I thought it looked a bit bare. Keeping with the simple features of things, I decided to add some more examples of organs.

EVALUATE: My quote “Give the gift of life” is something I really want to stand out in this piece, as I believe what the true message is behind the Maine Transplant Program; that is what they're working towards. Using this phrase, I built up an idea around it. And though it's a bit gruesome, I conveys the image of was trying to go towards. Looking back at this piece, if I could do anything to change it I would probably fill in the heart and bow completely red; giving more emphasis to those certain parts of the piece.
