This piece is the third in our concentration assignment for Advanced Studio. Continuing my theme of 'snakes', I actually also decided that I would revisit a similar art style that I've used in the past; as I thought that it would go along well with how I pictured this piece. Besides following a similar art style I also decided I would use a material that I'm also familiar with; ink. Having a very regal/royal feel to it, I also feel like there are some more haunting/barbaric undertones to it; mostly inspired by the vines wrapping around the throne, the dead look in the main subjects eyes, and the actual snakes themselves. Everything just seems to be frozen in time, the subject herself seemingly having not moved in a while; her only company the snakes wrapping around her as she sits on an old throne.
Though I like how this product turned out, this is a pretty far cry from what I originally had planned out. In my sketching process, I was going to draw a girl in a bathtub filled with snakes. The material was going to be the same, black in, but after drawing out the sketch I found that I just couldn't get the perspective right. Deciding to abandon that idea, I then decided I would revisit the common theme that I held with one of my earlier pieces; the rather fantasy feel. Looking at the final product, I'm happy with how things came out. Though if I were to revise in the future, I would probably try to incorporate either some gold or silver textures into this piece; as I believe in they are placed in the right areas they can really make the piece stand out as a whole.
