11. Signature Self Protrait

DESCRIBE: For this piece we were tasked with creating a self-portrait of ourselves out of our signatures. For my piece I focused on my main features and skin tone with pencil, because I found it easier to use value and texture on my features this way. But for my glasses I went for a brighter watercolor, since I didn't want them to just blend into the background of my face, and wanting them to stand out from the blue watercolor background also. Besides my uses of value and texture in this piece, line was used in each of my signatures along with color in the background and glasses. Contrast against the grey pencils and colored themes can also be seen, along with the emphasis I really tried to put on my glasses.

ANALYZE: With all the signatures muddled together to create value, grouping is also a common theme I can see throughout this piece; falling into the composition rules and techniques category. My piece following my central theme of emphasis never really changed, though in earlier drafts I was debating if I just wanted to glasses a color and not the back ground; though in the end I left that idea behind, going full out on the color.

EVALUATE: Throughout this piece, I was really pushing forth features that I thought defined me; my glasses being the most striking. Growing up with glasses since early middle school, they've quickly become an important object in my life; and without them I wouldn't be able to function properly. Because of that, I really wanted them to be honored in this piece. A thank you for all the years that they've helped me through in school and outside of it. Evaluating this piece now, I only thing I could think of revising in the future would be the values of the pencils that I used; making them a bit darker. They look fine right now, but with the richness of the paints, they seem kinda washed out.
