Beautiful Oops

Artist Statement

For this piece we were tasked in creating a image based around 'oops'; a ink stain. Handed out the stained pieces of paper randomly, after observing mine and trying to figure out what I was going to create with it, I decided that it rather resembled what a drink spill would look like from an aerial angle. Deciding to run with this, I decided to create a lunch scene that stopped mid-progression because of a drink spill.

I first sketched it out with pencil, before going back in with pen ink and a red marker to permanently outline my sketch and add some pops of color; restricting it to only coloring in the red foods and accessories that I included in the scene. This project really evolve much from when I started it, following the basic idea of a lunch scene with a few replaced food items, but I did have another beautiful oops that I started in the beginning that I was going to originally but didn't. I had everything sketched out on that sheet of paper, but comparing the two of them after this one was finished, I glad I decided to focus on this one. As I think overall the composition and theme came out much better.

Overall I really like how this piece came out. In real life it's pretty small, dimensions about 6 in. x 6 in., but I feel like I put a lot of details into that you can see if you get closer. The only thing I would potentially change in the future about this piece would be adding something more to the background. I would keep it pretty basic, maybe adding some shadows around the props of the table or a red-checker blanket to the background to make it more picnic-themed.
