"PRIMARY CHIPS"

This image shows three bags of chips on a shelf at the grocery store: a blue bag of salt and vinegar, a red bag of wavy chips, and a yellow bag of the classic Lay's chips. I made this image by entirely rearranging a display of chips at Shaw's and taking pictures of the three primary colored bags at different angles. I chose this image because it also shows the rest of aisle and gives the bag of chips a better setting than the ones where you can only see the chips and part of the shelf.

This image utilizes leading lines, as seen in the aisle on the left side; high-key lighting, reflected off of the glossy bags; and rule of thirds, as the chips are not entirely centered in the frame. Originally, I was going to have one yellow bag of lays and red and blue bags of Doritos as the subjects, but when I got to the store I saw that there were red and blue bags of Lay's and thought the image would have better uniformity if they were all the same brand.

The image calls back to an earlier project I did that was inspired by photographer Brian Ulrich, and his focus on consumer culture. If I were to change something, I may have moved the blue bag into a more prominent position, so that all the bags had equal representation.
