"MUD SEASON"

This image shows a winding stream that leads out to the ocean of the Freeport Harbor. Right before the stream empties out is Griffin, who stands, surveying the landscape. Far off, there are boats resting for the winter. I made this photo with the goal of getting as little snow in it as possible, because I'm sick of that plain whiteness that fills up space and doesn't create much depth. Because the sky was mostly gray when I took the photo, I wanted to find land that was twice as interesting to make up for a bland sky. One fall down a steep muddy cliff later, I found this area, which I was very satisfied with as it had interesting terrain and great lighting. I chose this image out of a ton because, it is very well balanced, shows the sun breaking through the clouds, and captures the depth of the landscape.

This image uses high horizon line, low-key lighting, formal balance, and some curvy leading lines. I edited this photo to darken the color of the sky and make the lighting darker, so that it almost looks like the photo was taken at dusk or dawn.

This photo, to me, represents the muddy aspect of spring on its second day. This image, like me while I was taking it, is covered in mud. I have already captured the green and glorious aspect of spring, my favorite season, with the image of the flowers in the snow storm, but this time I am showing its less glamorous side. If I were to change something about this photo, I might see what it looks like without Griffin.
