In both quarters I see an improvement in my work. In quarter one, my first photos are not always well thought out and are hardly edited to make them the best they can be. By the end of the quarter, I'm making sure I'm taking strong images just about every time and rely more on Photoshop editing to make them look better. For example, my digital compositions project had no editing and the images were often tilted or not sharp, but by my extreme perspectives photo it is well edited to make the colors match the mood of the image and the shot was thought out before taking the image. In the second quarter, my film projects improve from ones like the Thanksgiving image where I'm just trying to get anything at all, to those well thought out and strong images like in the independent project, where I thought about composition and outcome before taking the picture. The most challenging part of Photography 1 for me was getting the film projects to even happen. So many times I came out with blank rolls of film due to faulty cameras and would often have to redo the rolls, setting me behind in the class. It was difficult and frustrating, but by the end of the quarter, I was thinking carefully about every move I made during the development process. I'm most proud of the fact that I produced so many darkroom images. It was a new skill for me, as I was mostly familiar with the basics of taking digital photos, but this was all new to me and I wasn't sure if I could come out with strong images on top of learning something completely new. In my weakest images, you can tell that it may have been rushed or not well thought out, which is something I need to work on: not just doing the minimum required, but doing the best I can do. But I think these photos also showcase how quickly I can learn new skills proficiently like photoshop editing and darkroom development.
