My work this semester shows how I am thinking more about the composition of each photo when I take it. I no longer just snap a photo of something interesting, I try to take things that may be mundane and make them more interesting through photography. For example, some of my earlier work this semester just shows something that may be cool, like the hands reaching toward the sun, but it isn't necessarily compositionally interesting. Later, in photos like the one of Griffin in the water, I was thinking hard about how I wanted the photo to be composed, which only made Griffin have to stand in the water that much longer. The most challenging thing was working in the darkroom because I had such a hard time getting the right contrast for each photo, and then when I figured it out, I'd have to set it up differently for the next photo. It was frustrating. I'm most proud of taking my work this semester and turning it in for AP Studio Art. It made me take a new level of pride in the quality of my work, knowing that it turned out what I thought to be a solid portfolio. My work shows my strength of listening to what the assignment is, as I think each one correlates pretty well to the assignment given. A weakness it shows may be time management, as the ones from the darkroom that don't look so great are the result of having to be satisfied with them due to a lack of time.
(Thanks for a great year Ms. Medsker! Have a great summer!)
