Inspired Collage

For this project, I made a collage where the central focus is a young girl in front of an image of a Maine home. Surrounding the central image is newspaper and magazine clippings that focus on either Freeport or Maine. On the clippings is a few baby heads, cut out from magazines. All of the images came from newspapers or magazines and were glued on to a piece of paper before being scanned and re-printed in the darkroom. The idea was to capture the element of youth and home that Sally Mann uses in her photography. I did this by using images of the young girl and the epitome of youth: babies. Her images often feature her home or home area so I used newspaper clippings from my home and images of areas in my state to incorporate that element. Originally, I wanted the collage to be very sensical and not have any weird elements like the baby heads, but in the end I changed it so that the image was more interesting and so that the extra elements actually had meaning behind them It was difficult to get the darkroom process right so that my image would come out clearly, so if I had to change something I would like both of the prints to be lighter.
