Monochromatic Color

"FLOORS"

This image is of the floors of a hotel in Boston, intersecting and seeming like a maze. I took this image by standing in the all-white room with the lights tinting it a slight yellow and looked for where the color was the most uniform and compositionally interesting. I took multiple pictures and settled on this one because it is almost completely white.

The image is a blend of high key lighting, leading lines, and repetition. The project did not go through a lot of changes, as I was always envisioning something from this lobby once I saw how uniformly colored it was. I did make it more yellow to give it more warmth.

It evokes the sense of the MC Escher "Stairs" drawing, where the architecture is confusing but mesmerising and you can't tell where paths are coming from or where they're going. If I were to change something I might get rid of the slight red glow made by the exit signs on some of the higher arches.
