Multiple Exposures

"DRAG RACE"

"FULL HOUSE"

The subject of my first image, "Drag Race", is myself, and the subject of the second one, "Full House", is my dog. In the image of myself, I am competing in a drag race against myself while another version of me counts down to the start. The final product is made up of three images, each taken on a tripod with the camera on self-timer. I ran from camera to car and set myself up in less than ten seconds for each picture. In photoshop, I edited the pictures together to create one image where I appear to be in three different places. The image featuring the four dogs was made in a similar way, but instead of moving myself around quickly, I coaxed my dog around the kitchen and made her stay in the same place while I took the photo myself. I wanted both images to be interesting and have the multiple exposure be a central part of what the story of the image is, rather than a secondary element. Space was an important part of taking these pictures as I wanted both of them to seem like they have depth and were filled with subjects without taking up the whole picture. "Drag Race" incorporates framing primarily, as all three of me are framed by one of the car windows. There is also both high and low key lighting featured. In "Full House" the kitchen tiles create leading lines, leading to the dog that is furthest back. Also featured is repetition/grouping, as the dog looks mostly the same throughout, and sharp focus. If I were to revise a part of each image, in "Drag Race" I would make the closest driver more focused, as he's just ever so slightly blurry. In "Full House" I might add more dogs to give it that overwhelming sense of a house full of dogs.
