Support and other departments will soon be going back to an earlier and more cost effective method of using the company phone system. We will be utilizing the PBX system that was in use for some years before, and while there are a few programs that can integrate with this, the preferred method for now will be Zoiper.
Zoiper has a free version that completely serves our needs and is very lightweight in terms of system resources. This article will serve as a guide for staff members to install and configure the Zoiper client for use in their workday.
We will need to use an older version of this application as the newest one, Zoiper 5, is missing several key features and has several undesirable ones. Follow this link to the classics download page, and select the desktop version of Zoiper 3, as shown in the illustrated example on the right. Again, do NOT use either the 5th or "Classic" versions.
Once downloaded, you can then install it as you would any other application. Depending on your configuration of Windows, you may need to designate Admin privileges upon opening it for use. Right clicking on the shortcut and going to "Properties" will give the option to have this happen automatically.
Step One: After having downloaded and installed the correct version of Zoiper, go ahead and open it up. Go to the upper right of the interface, and click the "Settings" menu, then select "Create a new account".
Step Two: In this first window of the Account wizard, make sure that "SIP" is selected from the three options here, then click on the "NEXT" button on the lower right.
Step Three: In this section, you will enter the credentials that have been given to you by your manager and/or the SysAdmin. A general rundown of the three credentials is as follows:
The "User" will always be your voicemail extension number.
The "Password" will be given to you by your manager or SysAdmin.
The Domain/Outbound proxy will always be "pbx.rogerspos.com" (without the quotes).
When finished, click on the "NEXT" button in the bottom right.
Step Four: This section should auto fill the "Account name" to "voicemail extension"@pbx.supersalon.com. Leave "Skip auto-detection" unchecked, then click on the "NEXT" button on the lower right.
Step Five: Zoiper will then configure the account, please give a few minutes for this process to complete.
With Zoiper properly set up, you can now send and receive calls via the application. There are a lot of options that come with this application right out of the box with each section divided amongst the four tabs at the upper portion of the interface.
Phone contacts can be stored in this screen for quick reference. It's a good idea to put some of your more frequently called numbers, or the third party companies with whom we have a partnership (TYSYS, etc.) in this tab. Clicking on the "Add contact" link will start the process of setting these up.
Here in the History Screen, you can see all of the most recently placed calls, going back to the very beginning of your Zoiper installation. Very useful, especially when finding yourself in situations where locations require a multi-day solution to the issue they are facing.
This aptly named section of the interface is where you are able to actually use the soft phone. Remember that all outgoing calls need to have a "1" added to the beginning in order for the system to recognize it as an outside line. The following key sequences allow for its useful functions:
Hold:*69
Transfer:*67
Logging In:*67
Remote Detonation (Beta):*63
