An IP-Pointed system is NOT the same as a true multi-register system! Key differences:
A true multi-register system has peripheral hardware, which may include one or more of the following-Receipt printer
Cash drawer
Credit card terminal
Pole display
An IP-Pointed system can’t use any peripheral hardware, it’s only for accessing the salon’s data locally. Examples may include a manager doing the salon’s payroll, an inventory specialist adding products to the salon’s product list, or for salon staff to clock in and out without tying up the primary POS.
A true multi-register system has SuperSalon installed on it and goes through a registration process, whereas an IP-Pointed system is simply connected to the primary POS through the local area network.
A true multi-register system is typically used as an additional POS and register at the front of a salon, to be used for all salon purposes from clerical work to checking customers in/out and taking payments.
IMPORTANT: Set the primary POS to a static IP address, so that there are never any connection issues for the replica machines that are trying to connect to it.
On the primary POS, exit SuperSalon and open Windows command prompt. You can find it by searching “cmd” in the start menu.
Type in ipconfig /all to see IP Configurations for the primary POS and local area network.
4. Take note of the IPv4 address listed. This is the IP address of the primary POS, which will be used to configure the secondary system you are setting up. See the image below for reference (please note that yours will be different than what you see below!).
5. Open port 3306 in Windows Firewall on the primary POS. Learn how to open firewall ports in Windows here.
6. Connect to the secondary IP-Pointed machine you are configuring, and install chromium on it. You can find the necessary chromium install file on download.supersalon.com/update.
7. Once Chromium has been installed on the IP-Pointed PC, find the chromium shortcut on the desktop and do the following:
a. Right click on the shortcut and select properties, and then the shortcut tab.
b. In the Target field, add (IP ADDRESS OF MAIN POS)/index2.php -kiosk to the end of the text. It should look something like this:
8. Open the windows start menu, type startup into the search bar, and click on See which processes start up automatically when you start Windows.
9. Find Chromium in the listed programs, and enable it to start with Windows automatically.
10. Reboot the PC to ensure that SuperSalon is properly launching with Windows as expected when it boots up.
11. Give the salon staff a brief rundown of what to expect and how to open SuperSalon as needed.
CAUTION: Never run the Unify System Identities Utility on a multi-register system!
Updating to or working with a store to SuperSalon 6.3.7? If a store is using a true multi-register set up, each client PC will also need to be updated MANUALLY – The automated update process only works with the master PC!
Disable User Account Control Settings on the primary POS, as well as on each additional PC you are configuring.
Make sure LogMeIn is installed on all machines you are setting up, and put each one in the appropriate LogMeIn group with a clearly identifiable naming pattern!
Add notes to the store’s admin notes section, making it clear that they have more than one register set up:
Add a reminder for future technicians to be careful not to run the Unify System Identities Utility!
Notate each machine’s name as it’s listed in LogMeIn, along with it’s role in the multi-register system (main, secondary, or numbered format).
IMPORTANT: Set the primary POS to a static IP address, so that there are never any connection issues for the replica machines that are trying to connect to it. Take note of the IP address you configure it to, as you will be needing it in a future step.
Install SuperSalon on the secondary machine, and make sure to update it to the same version as the primary POS. DO NOT IMPORT ANY DATA!
Open port 3306 in Windows Firewall port configurations on both machines. Learn how to do that here.
On the primary POS, go to http://localhost/plugins/utilities/mc_registration.php
Copy the software key you see on the page, and paste it into the SuperSalon keygen tool on admin under the Tools tab.
Take the registration key that gets generated in the SuperSalon keygen tool, and paste it into the corresponding Registration Key field on the primary POS.
Please note: The registration key you generate will be different than what you see in the images below.
4. Set the Computer Role drop down to Master.
5. Click the Number of Client Machines drop down and set it to 10, even if you are only setting up one secondary POS.
6. Click the Submit Registration button, close the window, and relaunch SuperSalon on the primary POS.
On the secondary POS, go to http://localhost/plugins/utilities/mc_registration.php
Copy the software key you see on the page, and paste it into the SuperSalon keygen tool on admin under the Tools tab.
3. Take the registration key that gets generated in the SuperSalon keygen tool, and paste it into the corresponding Registration Key field on the primary POS.
NOTE: The registration key you generate will be different than what you see in the images below.
4. Set the Computer Role drop down to Client.
5. Put the primary PC’s static IP address into the Master Computer IP field you see on the registration page.
6. Click the Submit Registration button, close the window, and relaunch SuperSalon on the secondary POS.
Setting up more than one secondary machine?
Install SuperSalon on the additional machine, update it to the same version as the primary one, open port 3306 in the firewall, and complete the Registering the Secondary POS steps outlined above.
Once you have each additional machine configured and registered, you can continue to the next stage of the process.
On the primary POS, go to Setup → Utilities and click the Unify Systems Identity Utility. This is the ONLY time it’s safe to use the Unify Systems Identity Utility on a true multi-register system!
Still on the primary PC, go to C:\SuperSalon and open the identity.dat file using notepad. Copy it’s contents onto your own notepad on your computer, you will need it there for the next step.
3. On the secondary machine, open the identity.dat file using notepad. Delete the text you see there now, and paste the identity you grabbed in step 2 into the file and save it. Repeat this exact same process, with the exact same identity from the primary POS on each additional machine!
4. Confirm that the identities are the same for each machine, by going to Setup → Local Settings on each one. The identity you see listed there should be identical on each machine.
This has unified all of the registers under one identity for closeout, making it so that the closeout values and entries are exactly the same on each machine.
Any receipt printers that are set up on any additional machines, need to have the same receipt printer settings configurations. This means if the primary POS is set to POS-X / COM4, each additional POS needs to be set the same.
The only special requirement for peripheral hardware is the receipt printer, otherwise be sure to check with the salon staff or business owner about what hardware they actually have on their additional machines. Configure them as necessary by following the corresponding guidance in the Hardware section of the wiki.
Be sure to show the staff what to expect, test all peripheral hardware, and explain how the closeout will work going forward!
In the case of updating a secondary machine at a salon that has a true multi-register set up, it will need to be updated manually. This is because the secondary PC has no way of actually pulling the update, since it doesn’t use upsys.
CAUTION
Is the salon processing with Aurus?
On version 6.3.5? You can safely update it to any recent release of v6.
Any version OLDER than 6.3.5? DO NOT UPDATE. This will break their credit card processing!
DO NOT UPDATE:
Empire Schools
Any salon in Europe
Access the POS and make sure:
Windows Smart Screen is disabled.
Windows User Account Control are set to the lowest level / disabled.
Please make sure 7zip is not installed in the system- if it is, please remove it using Programs and Features and reboot the computer. 7zip can sometimes cause errors when updates are applied via upsys.
Set the update in admin, click the Update Store button on the admin page, and the POS will update at it’s next upload interval. If the update fails for any reason download it and run it as administrator manually. In either case, wait for it to complete.
Download the update manually to the secondary system and run it as admin. Also make sure:
Windows Smart Screen is disabled.
Windows User Account Control are set to the lowest level / disabled.
7zip is not installed on the system.
After the update is completed on each system, reboot them both and verify that the main PC is uploading.
