Sometimes, either through necessity or preference, a different browser is required to access SuperSalon’s interface. Below is an illustrated guide on how to set this up so that Bon Echo is no longer the host platform, as well as ensure that the GUI is as identical as possible when crossing platforms.
Manual Setup – Takes about 10 mins if over High speed
Download/install Chrome
Create a shortcut of the chrome browser.
If no shortcut is available on the desk top go Start Menu and right click to send to Desktop.
Right Click on Properties
At the end of the Target path add -kiosk
Change Icon. Navigate to the SuperSalon folder and change the icon from Chrome to SuperSalon.
Press Apply and OK.
Delete the SuperSalon Bon Echo Shortcut from the Startup folder. And also delete the delayed .bat file.
Copy the desktop shortcut you created and paste into startup folder all users.
Delete the SuperSalon Bon echo shortcut in the C:/SuperSalon folder. Paste in the desktop shortcut here as well.
Delete the Bon Echo and add the desktop shortcut to SuperSalon in the Start Menu.
This will allow SuperSalon to run in Chrome. You can make a second Chrome shortcut and place in the SuperSalon Install folder if the owner would like to hide browsing access.
CAUTION: F-11 will no longer work in Chrome while running in kiosk mode. “Alt+F-4” will close the browser. If you open a non modified Chrome shortcut you will need to close if before opening SuperSalon -kiosk shortcut in order for it to open as expected. If Chrome is opened in normal mode, and you then try to open the chrome – kiosk shortcut the full screen will not appear.
For security reasons, it is advised to disable any unneeded extensions. This can be done through the command line as well as the configuration of White and black lists.
Command line switch: –disable-extensions
White/Blacklist procedures can be reviewed from Google here.
With the lifespan of SuperSalon’s original Bon Echo shell quickly coming to a close, more and more SuperSalon installs will be focused around the Chrome architecture as opposed to that of Mozilla. The update process from Bon Echo 5.6.4 to 5.6.5.3 involves the use of a specialized update file located here. This update file will then perform the following functions as part of its delivery package;
Removes Bon Echo
Installs Chrome
Disables Chrome Updates
Removes the folder c:\SuperSalon\ssproject\include\settings
Updates SuperSalon code to 5.6.5.3
SuperSalon can then be updated to the latest version per the owner’s preferences.
CAUTION: Whenever SuperSalon is updated to 5.6.5 and beyond with an active kiosk, the kiosk must also be configured to run from the Chrome platform as well or there will be issues with all of the display fields.
SuperSalon versions 5.6.9 and newer have demonstrated issues such as freezing, display malfunctions, and other problems after being installed over-top an existing POS using standard Chrome. These issues are the direct result of the Chrome profile that still exists in the system, and the workaround is to delete that old profile folder, and rename the current Chromium one.
The steps for this procedure are as follows:
1. After completely uninstalling Google Chrome, enable Windows to show hidden files as demonstrated in the illustrated examples below.
2. Delete the Google folder located in the C:\Users\USER_ACCOUNT\App Data\Local directory, making sure to select the correct Windows user account.
P/Bro Tip: Shift + Delete simultaneously will bypass the Recycle Bin.
3. In the same directory (C:\Users\USER_ACCOUNT\App Data\Local), rename the Chromium profile folder, and restart Chromium.
4. When Chromium relaunches, a new profile folder will be created, so the next step is to set the homepage to http://localhost/index.php, as shown below.
5. Right-click on the Chromium shortcut, go to “Properties“, and make sure that the target field reflects the following:
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Chromium\Application\chrome.exe –kiosk –no-first-run –disable-hang-monitor –always-authorize-plugins –allow-outdated-plugins –disable-translate –disable-popup-blocking “http://localhost/index2.php“
6. Replace chromium’s icon with the SuperSalon icon located in the C:\SuperSalon directory, as shown below, and rename the Chromium shortcut to “SuperSalon“.
7. Be sure that this most current shortcut is being used in the Start Menu > Startup > All Users directory.
8. Launch SuperSalon and run a test ticket to be sure that the fix took effect.
