Receipt printing can be done with 3 different types of connections through SuperSalon. An important first step before you can even be sure which drivers you may or may not need, is to find out what type of cable connection the printer you are working with is using. Once you’ve established which type the printer is connected with, continue with the Preparing the Windows Environment guide below.
USB – USB using virtual comm port emulation.
Standard serial cables are seen less frequently than other options, as it’s an outdated printer communication method.
Serial – USB using an adapter cable to convert a printer that only has a serial port, to a USB cable to plug into the computer.
All of the various hardware our customers can take advantage of have a few important requirements that need to be taken care of before the installation can be considered complete:
Follow the steps in the Windows Power Settings Change article to be sure the hardware communication is not interrupted by Windows.
Complete the settings changes in the User Account Control Settings article to be sure any hardware drivers are not disrupted.
These are requirements – that means they must be completed for every hardware set up, no exceptions.
Go to Windows Start Menu → Type startup into the search bar → Select See which processes start up automatically when you start Windows.
Find the POSx vcom driver titled Tray MFC 응용 프로그램, select it, and click the Enable button near the bottom of the menu.
Follow the corresponding guide below based on the connection type you discovered in the last few steps.
Turn the printer off, and/or unplug it from the POS until later.
Go to https://pos-x.com/pos-system-hardware/printers/evo-green/ and scroll down to Manuals & Drivers.
Download the following drivers on the salon’s POS:
Windows Driver
Virtual COM Driver
Right click Thermal_Printer_Drivers_4.57.exe and run it as administrator.
Check off the POS-X Thermal Printer box, and click Installation(I).
Leave all settings as they are defaulted to, or reference the image to the right.
Follow the prompts in the driver to plug the Evo-Green in, power it up, and click okay to complete the device set up process. Follow the Evo-Green Installation article for guidance.
Right click the Receipt_Printer_Virtual_COM_Driver_8x64.exe and run it as administrator. Be sure that it’s the Windows 8 version, which is the proper driver for the Windows 10 environment as well!
Select a com port, and click next. Do not select anything above com port 8, as SuperSalon only functions through the first 8 comm ports.
Make sure that the virtual com driver is running, by checking the Windows icon tray.
Go to Setup → Receipt Printer.
Select POSX as the printer type.
Set the com port to the same one you configured in the POS-x vcom driver set up.
Enable the printer, with the last drop down menu on the main screen.
Direct the staff to the printer configurations iOffice Receipt Printer Submenu topic in the SuperSalon Knowledge Base to find out more about how they can use their receipt printer to promote their business, how to save paper, etc.
ALWAYS test the printer!
If you are working with a POSx Evo-Green that has a serial cable, and a POS that has a serial cable input – there is no driver installation necessary.
As a side note, be sure there are no receipt printer drivers installed at all, to prevent any sort of interference or problems.
A Serial-USB adapter becomes necessary when a salon upgrades their computer, but still has an old standard serial receipt printer. Modern computers don’t have a serial port, making it necessary to use an adapter from the serial cable running out of the receipt printer, to the USB port on the PC. It can be difficult to confirm if the salon you are working with is using a Serial-USB adapter, here are a few tips on how to be sure:
Explain that it’s two cables connected to one another, sort of like 2 extension cords. The first one is a serial cable (see image above), which runs from the receipt printer to the second cable. The second cable has a serial connection on one end, and a USB connection on the other – this is the end that needs to be plugged into an open USB slot on the computer.
Show the images of what to expect.
Let them know that as soon as you can confirm the connection type, you can finish the rest of the installation without their help within a few short minutes… Meaning they can get off the phone, and get back to doing their job!
Have you read the installation steps above and completed them? They are requirements before performing the guide outlined below. Failure to do so may result is a malfunctioning printer, unhappy salon staff, and an unnecessary second call from the store to our support team!
Confirm that you are indeed working with a serial-USB adapter cable.
Establish adapter’s manufacturer is. It will be on the packaging that it came in, or imprinted on the adapter itself somewhere.
Find the driver associated with the adapter, download, and install it as described by their documentation. The Windows driver and the vcom driver are not necessary, and may cause disruptions with a printer that uses a serial-USB connection. Do not install them.
ALWAYS test the printer!
NOTE: SuperSalon 6.6 supports full USB thermal receipt printing for Regis only!
This means that the vcom driver is no longer needed- UNLESS you are working with a salon that uses a pole display!
In this case, leave the vcom driver installed.
