Any Windows 10 tablet or PC can be used as a SuperSalon Kiosk.
To be clear, the SuperSalon kiosk is an application… Not a device. It can actually be run on any PC or Windows 10 tablet that meets the below minimum required specifications, though it only becomes available for a salon if it’s been enabled by ProPoint Support. Once it has been enabled the kiosk can be accessed from the POS, but more importantly it can be accessed from another PC or tablet on the network. I
n this way it can serve it’s intended purpose, which is to provide an easy-to-use interface for salon customers to check themselves in. This is more convenient for them, but it’s also easier for the salon staff who can continue servicing the customer they’re already working with, rather than needing to stop and create a ticket for a walk in customer.
Any Windows 10 tablet or PC can be used as a SuperSalon Kiosk.
Intel Atom 1.44 GHz CPU
2 GB RAM
Windows 10 OS
Wireless internet connection
SuperSalon Kiosk can run on any Windows 10 tablet or PC, so long as it meets the system requirements outlined on the SuperSalon Kiosk wiki home page. This can include a tablet purchased from our sales team, one that the owner purchased on their own, or even an old salon POS. As long as it can run the kiosk application and can get an internet connection, it can be used for customer self check-in!
Locate the store’s database on supersalon.admin.com.
Under the Office Setup sub-section, set the Kiosk flag to Yes.
3. Under the Store Statistics sub-section, set the Update to Version field to the latest kiosk version. If you aren’t sure which one to install, check with a senior tech or support manager!
4. Click the Update Store button on the far right of the screen below the side Menu.
5. Through LogMeIn on the salon’s POS, go into the Manager tab and click the Upload button.
6. Go to Setup -> Internet Setup and go to the Upload Overview area and watch the upload run through its process and be sure the upload completes.
7. Make sure that the network is set to Private in Windows Network and Sharing Center. If it’s not, set it to Private. This will enable the kiosk on the salon’s POS, so that it’s options can be configured and the device (tablet or PC) the salon wants to use as the customer check-in kiosk can have the SuperSalon Kiosk application set up on it.
In very rare cases, you might find that enabling the kiosk on admin does not work. If you are a Level 1 technician – escalate this case to the Level 2 queue.
Level 2+ ONLY
Run a manual upload after running the following update query
UPDATE `_options` SET `value`=1, `dirty_bit` = 1 WHERE `name` = "scheckin_enable"
Your role here is to do one of the following, depending on the customer’s preference!:
Walk them through the kiosk settings to help them understand what the options are, so they can be configured in a way that will benefit their business. Make sure that you understand the settings yourself before assisting the customer!
Direct them to the SuperSalon Knowledge Base Kiosk Configuration topic so they can learn about the various settings themselves.
If they prefer for you to walk them through the settings, then on the main computer navigate to Setup → Software Settings → System → Check-In Kiosk and click the Launch Kiosk Configuration button. Show the manager or business owner how you got there.
Once all of the settings have been configured to the user’s liking and saving any changes, close the Kiosk Configuration window and relaunch SuperSalon. Continue to Step 4: Configuring the Kiosk Device.
Install LogMeIn on the tablet or PC that will be used as the check in kiosk. This is necessary for the installation, but also useful for future troubleshooting. Use the store name to identify this on LMI but add the word KIOSK to the end of it so others can tell which computer is which
Go to http://download.supersalon.com/updates/ and download Chromium version 54, and install it.
Open Chromium and try the following URL – (IP ADDRESS OF PRIMARY)/app/index.php?controller=scheckin and the kiosk should launch
After this is working you have to fix all the shortcuts so, right click on the Chromium shortcut on the desktop and go to “Properties”, and then the “Shortcut” tab.
5. Update the Target field to the IP address of the Primaryyou marked down. The full target should look like this
%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Chromium\Application\chrome.exe (IP ADDRESS OF PRIMARY)/app/index.php?controller=scheckin -kiosk
6. Make a copy of the shortcut you just adjusted
7. Hit Windows key and the ‘R’ key to open up the run command and type shell:startup and click OK
8. Paste the copy of your shortcut in the folder that opens.
9. Reboot the Kiosk computer or tablet so you can confirm that Kiosk launches properly when the computer starts up.
SuperSalon and the kiosk communicate to one another through the Local Area Network. For the kiosk to run properly, it needs to have a stable connection to the main computer that SuperSalon runs on, or else it won’t work – The kiosk depends on this connection. All of the below may possible fix the issue described:
Use LogMeIn to connect to the kiosk – if it’s not available to connect to, this is why the kiosk isn’t working. Perform basic network troubleshooting to get the kiosk connected to the internet.
If you can connect, press f5 to refresh the kiosk application.
Check the Windows Firewall configurations, it is necessary that port 80 is open for the kiosk to function. If it isn’t open, read the Opening a Firewall Port article to learn how to do this.
If steps 1-3 do not work, escalate to ProPoint support!
Most kiosks are equipped with a touch screen to make it easy for customers to check in on, which means that they’re susceptible to touch screen related issues. Please see the Touch Screen article for more information.
