A POS running SuperSalon can require a static IP address for a number of reasons. From credit card processing, to a backdoor, to a master/client PC setup.
Open the Windows start menu and type cmd. Open Windows Command Prompt.
Type ipconfig /all into cmd.
Take note of the current IPv4 address, the Default Gateway address, and the Subnet Mask. They will be important when configuring the POS to connect to a static IP address.
Open the Windows start menu and type network. Click on Network and Sharing Center in the results.
Click change adapter settings on the left, in the menu that appears.
Right click on the network adapter, and click the properties button.
Under This connection uses the following options click on Internet Version Protocol 4 (TCP /IPv4).
Click the properties button in the bottom right of the adapter settings menu.
In the following menu, enter into the appropriate fields:
IP address: The IP Address currently assigned to the POS that you found in step 1c above.
Subnet Mask: The Subnet Mask you found in step 1c above.
Default Gateway: The Default Gateway address you found in step 1c above.
Preferred DNS Server: Enter 8.8.8.8 (Google DNS).
Alternate DNS Server: Enter 8.8.4.4 (Google Alt DNS).
NOTE: If you get disconnected, don’t worry. Refresh LogMeIn a few times and wait for the POS to regain it’s connection.
If you made a mistake assigning the statis IP address, or are otherwise unable to reconnect: Direct the end user on how to quickly reopen the properties menu, click Obtain IP address automatically, and then click the OK button. The POS should regain it’s connection again shortly, and you can try again.
