As individuals we come from diverse backgrounds. Beginning with culture, religion, politics just to name a few. Whether or not someone agrees/disagrees with a point of view, it is important to take into account their perspective and their reasoning of this point of view. Through attitudes and values, students will develop the ability to analyse points of view and be able to develop an understanding as to why they believe what they believe.
Programmes in health and physical education contribute to the well-being of individuals and society by promoting the attitudes and values listed below.Through their learning in health and physical education, students will develop a positive and responsible attitude to their own physical, mental and emotional, social, and spiritual well-being that includes:
valuing themselves and other people
a willingness to reflect on beliefs
the strengthening of integrity, commitment, perseverance, and courage.
They will develop respect for the rights of other people, for example, through:
acceptance of a range of abilities
acknowledgment of diverse viewpoints
tolerance, rangimarie, and open-mindedness.
They will develop care and concern for other people in their community and for the environment through:
cooperation and awhina
applying aroha, manaakitanga, care, compassion, and mahi a ngakau
constructive challenge and competition
positive involvement and participation.
They will develop a sense of social justice and will demonstrate:
fairness
inclusiveness and non-discriminatory practices.
This week we will be completing our attitudes and values learning as part of the four major underlying concepts. At the end of this learning you will be required to respond to a question discussing two perspectives on obesity. You will need to engage with the resources provided to understand the two groups perspectives on this issue before writing two paragraphs explaining these. It is expected that you utilise a paragraph writing acronym such as PEEL (Point, Example, Explain, Link). You will also be expected to include in text references in these paragraphs. Your course teacher will spend time in class teaching you how to complete each of these.
APA 7th Ed. is the current standard for referring through university. This is not only compulsory in Health and university but it is also graded in university impacting your overall grade if not done correctly. We will be scaffolding the referencing through the year to become more in-depth as you step towards university. Your task this week will be to apply understanding of attitudes and values to a discussion around obesity. Reflect back on the statement around "health is your own responsibility" when reading the resources you will be provided with to consider both groups perspectives on this issue.
Hauora is a Māori philosophy of health unique to New Zealand. It comprises taha tinana (Physical), taha hinengaro (Mental & Emotional), taha whanau (Social), and taha wairua (Spiritual).
Each dimension of Hauora are just as important as each other. It is considered that if one dimension is effected, all dimensions are effected.
This week we will be completing our hauora learning as part of the four major underlying concepts. At the end of this learning you will be required to respond to a question making links to hauora. You will need to engage with the resources provided to understand the underlying concept and how it can be applied in the writing task response. It is expected that you utilise a paragraph writing acronym such as PEEL (Point, Example, Explain, Link). You will also be expected to include in text references in these paragraphs. Your course teacher will spend time in class teaching you how to complete each of these.
