By the end of the week
I understand what personal, interpersonal and societal strategies are
I have completed my full draft for Resource A
I have taken the time to read over Resource B at some point this week
I have watched the acquired videos and read the acquired readings and been able to reflect on the impacts on interpersonal relationships
I am able to apply interpersonal strategies to the various videos/readings
You may either
Watch the movie "Love, Simon" (recommended option)
Or watch this scene from the movie "Love, Simon"
You need to discuss any peer and/or family interpersonal expectations that have influenced peoples idea about gender and/or sexuality
(Please answer these questions on the Padlet)
Interpersonal influences on gender/sexuality in the media
Explain how peer and family expectations influence people’s ideas about gender OR sexual identity (depending on the scenario chosen). Describe the expectations and then explain why/how these influence people’s thinking about what it means to be male in society (scenario 1) or female sexual identity (scenario 2).
Explain a strategy people could use in their interpersonal communications with other people, which could promote the well-being of a group of people in order to encourage social justice in relation to this gender issue. Describe the strategy itself and then explain why/how it would encourage social justice in this situation.
Fair
Inclusive
Non- discriminative
Media, gender roles and sexuality
The media contributes towards many attitudes and values when we look at and discuss gender roles and sexuality. From confirming gender stereotypes and roles to subconsciously relaying messages about sexuality through the portrayal of men and the "womaniser" behaviours associated. Use the Google Doc resource below to build your ideas about the impact that media has on gender roles and sexuality to develop a critical thinking approach.
Highlight what is happening in the scenario
(Identify what you are looking to pick out of the scenario)
"Peer and family expectations relating to female sexual identity"
"Peer and family expectations relating to male gender roles"
Assumption/expectations on Peer and family expectations for male gender roles or female sexuality
What can these assumptions/expectations do to influence people’s thinking about what it means to be male in society (scenario 1) or female sexual identity (scenario 2) - how does this relate to well-being?
Explain aspects of the scenario where this can be seen (specific examples)
Is what being discussed in the scenario demonstrating the three aspects of social justice?
Fair
Inclusiveness
Non-discriminatory behaviour
(in relation to being male, or in relation to female sexual identity)
When developing strategies you need to discuss strategies in a way that is looking to address a social injustice and develop strategies to ensure social justice for interpersonal actions
Identify a strategy that "people could use in their interpersonal communications with other people, which could promote the well-being of a group of people in order to encourage social justice in relation to this gender issue. Describe the strategy itself and then explain why/how it would encourage social justice in this situation."
You will then to describe a personal attribute that an individual may need to show in order to carry out these interpersonal strategies (ensure the difference between personal and interpersonal has been made clear)
Consider strategies that reflect things that the person can complete themselves. For example: Learning personal skills such as assertiveness, decision making, problem solving or conflict resolution skills
Consider strategies that involve another person or persons. For example: Using problem solving, conflict resolution and shared decision-making processes in relationships with other people.
Consider strategies that can cover the whole of society. Things such as policy, TV, advertisments that appeal and have an impact on the entire society. For example: Advocating a greater range of role models through advertisments and TV
