Alcohol facts
-35 million litres of pure alcohol produced in 2018 for consumption. For a comparison a standard Olympic-sized swimming pool measuring 50m long and 25m wide, contains 2.5 ML or 2.5 million litres of water.
-New Zealanders spend $85 million per week on alcohol!
-29% of fatalities on the road are caused by alcohol
-Those who had a parent who drank heavily are 5 timesmore likely to become heavy drinkers themselves

As much as alcohol has benefits for its use, there are a number of negative implications that can be seen as a result of alcohol consumption. Use the table to discuss as a class what the short and long term implications are as a result of alcohol consumption for the people consuming alcohol, the relationships these people have and the impact on society as a result of alcohol consumption.
